Accounting Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an Accounting Manager for a contract/temporary opportunity in Chicago, IL within the education industry. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys hands-on financial operations, accurate reporting, departmental accounting support, and collaboration with internal teams.

The Accounting Manager will support day-to-day accounting activities, journal entries, account maintenance, reporting, budget-related tasks, and issue resolution. Key Responsibilities

- Prepare, review, and input journal entries while maintaining accurate accounting records for assigned departments.
- Support daily, monthly, and month-end accounting activities, including account balancing, data entry, and report generation.
- Assist with budget preparation, budget tracking, budget summaries, and related financial documentation.
- Maintain and update computerized accounting systems and ensure timely processing of financial forms and transactions.
- Serve as a liaison for departmental charges, vendor inquiries, information requests, and accounting issue resolution.
- Support special projects and general administrative functions that contribute to effective office operations.

Compensation and Benefits

- Compensation: $79.00 to $95.00 per hour.
- Job Type: Contract/Temporary.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage departmental accounting activities, including journal entries, account records, and month-end balancing.
- Support budget-related work, including summaries, updates, tracking, and documentation.
- Generate accounting reports, process financial forms, and maintain computerized accounting system data.
- Research discrepancies, resolve errors, and respond to departmental and vendor inquiries.

- Management-level accounting experience or equivalent experience supporting accounting operations.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, practices, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
- Experience using computerized accounting programs or financial systems.
- Strong data entry, reporting, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accuracy, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with departments, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to provide workflow guidance or transaction support to lower-level office staff when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in an education, nonprofit, public sector, or complex departmental accounting environment.
- Experience assisting with budget management or departmental financial administration.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort supporting special projects and administrative accounting needs.
