Make a difference in a child’s life and have fun while working at an amazing wilderness adventure summer camp in California’s splendid Tahoe National Forest! Nestled on the peaceful headwaters of the North Yuba River, near the Lakes Basin Recreation Area and its dozens of pristine mountain lakes and miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, and just an hour and 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe, the Camp is perfectly located for you to enjoy all this area has to offer. Shaffer’s High Sierra Camp is positioned between a traditional, non‑specialized camp and a rugged, Outward Bound‑style wilderness experience. We hope to give children an introduction to the great outdoors so they’ll develop a life‑long love of nature. We also use our program to work on the essentials of child development—independence, social skills, self‑confidence, and self‑esteem. Desired Qualifications Desire and ability to work hard in a children’s camp in a wilderness setting Ability to work well with others Ability to accept supervision Good character, integrity, and adaptability Enthusiasm, sense of humor, good judgment, patience, and self‑control General Responsibilities for Custodian Assist in reopening the camp after the off‑season, including cleaning, inventorying supplies, and unpacking items from storage Assist in the daily maintenance of camp chores Practice safety and cleanliness Help unload and store supplies in an organized manner Help move supplies around the storage and keep track of the need to re‑order Do the cleaning of bathrooms, offices, and all buildings Assist in any area, as requested by the Directors Assist in the close‑down at the end of the season, including preparing an inventory and storing supplies and equipment These are not the only duties to be performed; some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
