Encapsys - Third Shift Weekend Lab Technician Location: Portage, WI, US, 53901 Company: Milliken and Company Position Overview The Lab Technician position is responsible for sample collection and testing, and data recording activities for finished goods and raw materials to ensure customer requirements are met. The role works closely with Process Leads and Process Operators to communicate issues and aid in resolving them. Job Responsibilities Ensure products meet quality specifications before receiving and/or shipment. Perform in-process quality checks and balance to ensure product meets key point specifications. Properly maintain laboratory equipment. Work overtime to cover vacancies/vacations and meet customer requirements, including weekends. Ensure personal safety of self and others while conducting work tasks. Cross‑train to other processes and positions for business continuity and flexibility. Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems and assist in identifying and correcting these problems. Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded. Analyze test data and compute results as necessary to determine test outcomes. Collect samples from tanks per production schedule for testing. Read dials and meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels. Clean, maintain, repair, and calibrate measuring instruments and test equipment. Compute defect percentages or averages, using formulas and calculators, and prepare reports of inspection or test findings. Attend all plant meetings and complete all training on time. Maintain 5S standards. Occasionally push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds. Safety Adhere to all plant safety policies and compliance regulations. Actively participate in the safety process through completing safety audits, participating in safety projects, identifying site hazards, and contributing to safety improvements. Complete annual safety training as required. Quality Become familiar with, understand, and comply with Milliken Quality Policy, Standard Operating Procedure(s) (SOPs), relevant ISO 9000 standards and company policies applicable to this position. Responsible Care Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC‑14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance. Understand the RC‑14001 significant aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts. Take actions and identify and communicate ideas to minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy. Hazardous Waste Handling All associates who handle hazardous waste shall be given an overview of the regulations and company policies regarding the management of hazardous waste. The hazardous waste handlers shall receive detailed instruction on proper handling, collecting, labeling, and transporting hazardous waste as outlined in RCRA and OSHA regulations. Instructions shall also include whom to notify in case of a spill and proper procedures for spill response. Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Responsibilities Understand the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and RC‑14001 certification. Understand the importance of compliance with Environmental, Safety and Responsible Care Policies, procedures, and the requirements of the RCMS. Understand the significant environmental impacts associated with work activities and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts. Understand potential consequences of deviation from specified operating procedures. Immediately report any accidents and releases per the company escalation protocol. Comply with all environmental, health, safety, and security rules; Environmental, Safety, and Responsible Care policies and programs established by the company. Recognize that adhering to job responsibilities and procedures regarding environmental, safety, security, and health is a condition of employment. Contribute to continuous improvement of the plant environmental, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and programs. Qualifications - Required High school diploma or GED with coursework completed in general chemistry. Accountability – Ability to accept responsibility and account for actions. Detail oriented – Ability to pay attention to all details of a project or task and perform work accurately and thoroughly. Experience in a laboratory environment preferred. Experience with Microsoft software applications helpful; keyboarding proficiency and general computer knowledge/experience preferred.
