Job Description

This role focuses on grinding and polishing metal components to a high-quality finish while supporting basic fabrication and other production activities. You will use hand grinders and various tools to smooth rough edges, cut metal to length, and assist across departments such as assembly, packaging, and paint. The position offers hands-on work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with opportunities to learn new skills and advance within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Use a hand grinder to smooth rough edges on metal parts and polish them to a clean, consistent finish.
• Start in the grinding area and progressively learn additional tasks as skills develop.
• Cut metal to specified lengths using a tape measure and appropriate cutting tools, ensuring accuracy and adherence to measurements.
• Perform basic fabrication tasks, including operating equipment such as brake presses and spot welders under proper guidance.
• Buff metal parts to achieve the required surface finish and appearance.
• Rack parts for paint, ensuring correct placement and spacing for optimal coating.
• Assist in assembly operations by putting together components according to specifications and work instructions.
• Support packaging activities, including preparing finished parts for shipment and handling materials safely.
• Help in the paint area as needed, following safety procedures and quality standards.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively throughout daily tasks.
• Follow production schedules and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment.
• Inspect work for quality and accuracy, reporting any defects or issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and comply with all safety and shop rules.
• Collaborate with team members and cross-train in different departments to support overall production needs.
• Work independently when required, staying self-motivated and focused on completing assigned tasks.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of manufacturing experience.
• Mechanical aptitude demonstrated through previous work experience, schooling, or related hobbies.
• Experience with sheet metal and grinding operations.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately, including basic math skills for measurements.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools in a shop or manufacturing setting.
• Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Completion of or participation in shop classes such as welding, automotive, woodworking, or machine/tool courses.
• Interest in expanding skills in fabrication, welding, and metalworking.
• Willingness to cross-train in multiple departments, including assembly, packaging, and paint.
• Openness to pursuing additional training or certifications related to welding or fabrication.
• Reliable work habits, including consistent attendance and punctuality.

Work Environment

You will work in a large manufacturing facility that operates at a fast pace and can be physically demanding. The environment is not temperature controlled, so it may become hot during the summer months. The role requires comfort with standing, moving, and handling tools and materials throughout the shift. You will regularly use hand and power tools, grinding equipment, fabrication machinery such as brake presses and spot welders, and work around paint and finishing processes. The facility maintains a smoke-free campus and expects employees to work safely, stay self-motivated, and adapt to the dynamic production needs of the shop.

This is a Permanent position based out of Anoka, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $22.75/hr.
