Overview Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) is an academic health center that integrates education, clinical care, and research to improve human health. The role is located in the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and serves the professional community through poison information and education. Responsibilities Responds to telephone calls regarding appropriate care and treatment for acute poisoning and toxic exposures. Demonstrates understanding of principles of toxicology when suggesting patient management or providing poison information. Operates the telephone system, microcomputers, peripherals, and backup systems. Obtains a complete history specific to each call and assesses the severity of calls to the poison center. Triages and provides drug and poison information and refers patients as appropriate. Responds to calls on the New Jersey State AIDS / STD Hotline, providing information, resources, and referrals. Provides telephone management of exposed patients and delivers consultation on care. Qualifications Candidates must be a Nurse, Pharmacist, or Physician. Successful completion of all orientation programs. Detailed knowledge of pharmaceuticals and toxicological principles. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STD’s, symptoms, treatments, and testing. Excellent oral, written, and keyboard skills; technological know‑how to operate computers and the telephone system. Minimum education: Bachelor’s Degree in a health science discipline. Related experience and/or education may be substituted for the requirements on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications Some clinical experience is preferred but not required. Experience in Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care is preferred.
