Supervisor of Reference Services, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield) The Supervisor of Reference Services is responsible for coordinating and administering all programming and activities in the Reference Department. This position requires an understanding of contemporary library services and of reference services in the fast-paced public library environment. The role demands a thorough understanding of the public's informational needs, the ability to manage a large staff performing a variety of library functions, and leadership skills necessary to guide the institution into the future. Other duties include overseeing the selection of all materials assigned to staff, providing engaging and dynamic reference service, implementing new programs and services for patrons, and providing monthly and yearly statistics related to the ARIS report. Qualifications A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science is highly desired but not required. At least three years of experience in a public library is desired. Experience with current information technologies and developments in all areas related to public libraries is also required, along with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to teach library skills to staff.
