Job Description: MLee Healthcare is seeking a skilled Med Tech to join a growing team laboratory team in Delaware. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist supports the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and technical management of their assigned section(s). They ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the laboratory and act as a resource for problem-solving. The Lead adjusts work assignments and responds to workload changes in real time when the supervisor is unavailable. They are responsible for timely and accurate specimen handling, delivery, testing, results reporting, and customer service, all while adhering to laboratory and hospital policies. The Lead works independently but collaborates with the Laboratory Section Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and/or Outpatient Service Center Manager (if applicable). In the absence of a supervisor, the Lead may assume the role of acting supervisor, fulfilling all related responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

1. Operational and Technical Support: Assists the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in managing day-to-day laboratory operations, including problem-solving and real-time workload adjustments. Ensures efficient specimen handling, testing, reporting, and customer service while adhering to laboratory and hospital policies. May serve as acting supervisor and handle all related duties in their absence.
2. Procedure and Documentation: Executes all procedures within established turnaround times and conducts proficiency testing with accurate documentation. Prioritizes work effectively, communicates critical values promptly, and ensures adherence to protocols. Handles Medical Laboratory Scientist tasks during peak periods and staff absences, and performs technical duties of the supervisor as needed.
3. Resource Management: Manages supplies responsibly to prevent wastage, oversees inventory, and orders necessary items to maintain adequate stock. Maintains reagent logs, coordinates instrument service, and acts as the liaison for vendors.
4. Staff Management and Training: Assigns daily tasks, trains and evaluates staff, and provides feedback for performance appraisals. Conducts competency assessments and participates in personnel selection and peer interviews.
5. Safety and Compliance: Follows Infection Control and Safety protocols, maintains Hazardous Chemical logs, and ensures work areas are disinfected. Manages staff scheduling and coverage, addressing vacancies in the supervisor's absence.
6. Regulatory and Quality Compliance: Reviews regulatory standards and addresses non-compliance issues. Oversees proficiency testing, reviews results, and investigates unsuccessful tests. Monitors equipment performance and assists in procedure development and validation.
7. Data Analysis and Quality Control: Performs statistical analysis, linearity studies, calibrations, and patient correlations. Reviews patient results, monitors QC, and manages reagent lot rollovers. Provides recommendations for corrective actions and oversees QC reporting.
8. Additional Duties: Completes other responsibilities as assigned within the scope of the role.

Required credentials:

• Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory
• Preferred five years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory
• Credential Certification related to the position, if applicable.
