About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience, Level I experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, BCR, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS Must-Have: National certification in Emergency Nursing preferred but not required Description: Emergency Department RN needed. Facility features 637 licensed beds and Level 1 Trauma Designation. Teaching hospital recognized as a Chest Pain and Stroke Center. Unit accommodates 61 beds plus surge capacity. Census typically exceeds 61 patients. Patient types and common diagnoses include Chest Pain, Strokes, Diabetes, Abdominal Pain, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Hypertension, Stabbings, and Mental Health issues. Patient ratios are RN: 1:4 depending on assigned zone. LPN ratios are also 1:4. CNA support is available, with 4-6 techs per shift. Required skills include proficiency in Level 1 Trauma and Emergency room nursing. Experience with drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed is essential. Support within the department includes CNAs for vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting with turning, hourly rounding, and transporting patients as needed. There is a unit secretary and assistance from phlebotomy staff. Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalists are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is performed centrally in the Emergency Room. Familiarity with EMR systems, specifically EPIC, is required. Experience with IV Pumps, medication dispensing systems, monitors, and other unit-specific equipment is a must. Floating is possible within the Emergency Room after six months, with a chance of floating to another location, though not guaranteed. Unit culture is busy but emphasizes teamwork.
