Educational Diagnostician Alexander County Schools EC/Student Support Services - Township of Taylorsville, North Carolina Position Type: Full-Time, 10 months; Exempt Starting Date: Immediately Job Description The Educational Diagnostician serves on the Exceptional Children multidisciplinary evaluation team, conducting comprehensive educational evaluations, administering standardized academic assessments, collecting and analyzing educational data, supporting eligibility determinations, participating in IEP development, and ensuring compliance with IDEA, North Carolina Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities, and district procedures. The Educational Diagnostician collaborates with school psychologists, related service providers, teachers, administrators, and families to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities. Qualifications Master's degree in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Assessment, or a closely related field. Valid North Carolina educator license. Minimum of three years of successful educational experience. Experience administering or interpreting educational assessments preferred. Essential Job Functions Administer standardized academic achievement assessments for initial evaluations, reevaluations, and other evaluations as assigned. Review existing evaluation data and assist multidisciplinary teams in determining appropriate assessments. Collect and analyze educational information including cumulative records, intervention data, curriculum-based measures, classroom observations, teacher input, and parent interviews. Prepare comprehensive educational evaluation reports that summarize assessment findings and instructional implications. Participate in eligibility determination meetings and provide educational recommendations. Collaborate with licensed school psychologists and other multidisciplinary team members to support comprehensive evaluations. Assist IEP teams in interpreting assessment data and developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP). Recommend evidence-based instructional practices, accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction based on evaluation results. Support MTSS problem-solving teams through analysis of student performance data and intervention effectiveness. Ensure evaluations are completed within IDEA and North Carolina timelines and maintain accurate documentation in ECATS. Provide consultation and professional learning to school staff regarding assessment interpretation, progress monitoring, and instructional decision-making. Maintain assessment materials, testing security, and confidentiality of student records. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Children. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge of educational assessment procedures and special education. Ability to prepare concise narrative summaries on diagnostic findings and to interpret findings for staff planning conferences. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills. Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and North Carolina Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities. Knowledge of standardized educational assessment, academic achievement testing, MTSS, progress monitoring, and evidence-based instructional practices. Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data and communicate findings clearly. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
