Principal Hardware Engineer Great River Technology (GRT) is searching for a Principal Hardware Engineer to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in ARINC 818 digital video interface design, testing, simulation, and VHDL implementation within the aerospace domain. This role requires an individual with a proven track record of architecting, developing, and verifying complex airborne electronic hardware, with a particular emphasis on high-speed digital video and data communication systems. The successful candidate will provide technical depth and leadership, mentor junior engineers, and significantly contribute to the strategic direction of GRT’s hardware development initiatives. Responsibilities: Serve as the primary technical authority for all aspects of ARINC 818 design, including Fibre Channel protocols, video formats, timing, and link integrity. Lead the architectural definition, detailed design, and implementation of ARINC 818 interfaces for advanced avionics systems. Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures for ARINC 818 compliance, robustness, and performance validation. Develop simulation methodologies for ARINC 818 links, including model development and performance prediction. Design, develop, and verify complex VHDL code for high-performance FPGAs (e.g., Xilinx). Expertise in FPGA architecture, floor planning, timing closure, synthesis, and place and route optimization. Implement DSP algorithms and video processing pipelines within FPGAs. Develop comprehensive verification environments using VHDL, UVM, or other appropriate methodologies. Lead the full lifecycle hardware development for airborne electronic systems. Conduct in-depth analysis of power consumption, component stress, and reliability for critical hardware components. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level hardware engineers. Contribute to aerospace certification and airworthiness documentation. Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices, internal standards, and regulatory requirements. Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex hardware issues using advanced diagnostic tools. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and research in digital video and FPGA technology. Propose and implement design improvements for existing products, focusing on quality, cost reduction, and obsolescence management. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in hardware design and development within the aerospace or defense industry. Deep expertise and recognized subject matter expertise in ARINC 818 design, testing, and simulation. Extensive experience with VHDL for complex FPGA development in aerospace applications. Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineering teams. Strong understanding of digital circuit design principles, high-speed digital interfaces, and signal integrity. Proficiency with EDA tools such as ModelSim/QuestaSim, Vivado, and associated FPGA development suites. Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and network analyzers. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, collaborative, and highly regulated environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with other aerospace data bus standards. Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools. Experience with Python or other scripting languages for test automation and data analysis. Hardware Engineer Intern (Albuquerque) Great River Technology (GRT) is looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual to intern with our Albuquerque Engineering team developing advanced video products for aerospace. In this role you will work with GRT's Design Engineers on the development of electronic hardware, including the design of circuits, VHDL firmware, and prototype testing. Job Responsibilities: Support the design of electronic circuit boards. Develop VHDL code modules and perform simulations. Test firmware in prototype hardware. Assist with environmental and qualification test activities. Requirements: Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. Have completed the freshman and sophomore years. Software Test Intern (Albuquerque) Great River Technology (GRT) is looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual to intern with our Albuquerque Engineering team developing test software to support GRT hardware. Job Responsibilities: Develop software applications using C/C++. Develop automated test software using scripting languages such as Python and Bash. Debug and test code. Document and test software applications for developed hardware. Requirements: Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. Have completed the freshman and sophomore years. Systems / Project Engineer The Systems/Project Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, integration, qualification/certification and management of Great River Technology’s COTS products and complex avionics systems and subsystems from concept through delivery. Job Responsibilities: Define and manage system-level requirements for COTS test equipment and avionics products. Develop and refine system architectures supporting multiple video protocols and interfaces. Conduct trade studies, system modeling, and performance analysis to support design decisions. Lead systems integration, verification, and validation activities across the development lifecycle. Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as ARINC 818, SMPTE, DO-160, DO-254, and MIL-STDs. Develop product documentation to satisfy program source data requirements. Develop product acceptance, design verification, qualification, and certification test strategies. Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans aligned with technical scope and customer milestones. Lead cross‑functional efforts involving hardware, firmware, software, and test teams. Serve as the technical liaison between internal teams, suppliers, and customers. Monitor and report progress against key performance indicators, including risk, cost, and schedule. Lead or participate in design and technical reviews. Manage change control, documentation, and project artifacts in accordance with AS9100 and program standards. Support proposal development, including technical write-ups and cost estimates. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering. 5+ years of experience in aerospace systems or project engineering roles. Demonstrated experience of system design integrating hardware, firmware, and software. Demonstrated experience managing technical projects through the full lifecycle. Familiarity with qualification/certification processes for DO-160, MIL-461/810 and DO-254. Familiarity with video standards such as ARINC 818, HDMI, SDI, CVBS. Background in avionics or aerospace electronics integration. Strong documentation, system architecture design, and analytical skills. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Production Quality Assistant Great River Technology is seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Production Quality Assistant to support our production operations and quality management systems (QMS). This role will focus on ensuring product and process quality during all stages of manufacturing, with an emphasis on compliance with aerospace standards and continuous improvement. Job Responsibilities: Conduct in‑process inspections and final product verifications. Partner closely with production teams to provide real‑time quality oversight and guidance on the shop floor. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of QMS procedures related to production activities. Support and participate in internal audits to maintain AS9100D compliance. Identify, document, and resolve quality issues; track nonconformances and drive corrective and preventive actions. Monitor and report on production quality performance metrics and support improvement initiatives. Lead and participate in 5S inspections to ensure workplace organization and continuous improvement. Promote a FOD‑free environment across all production areas. Assist in supplier audits and quality assessments for production materials and components. Support compliance with U.S. export regulations (EAR) and environmental standards. Provide training and coaching to production staff on quality requirements and best practices. Manage customer quality compliance requests related to production. Requirements: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality assurance or quality control role, preferably in aerospace or avionics manufacturing. Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015 & AS9100D standards. Hands‑on experience with production inspections, process audits, and corrective action management. Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving, and analytical skills. Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with production and cross‑functional teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
