Advanced Clinical Technician

With commitment to patient and family centered care, the Advanced Clinical Technician provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members. As the highest level of technical role within acute nursing services, the Advanced Clinical Technician demonstrates advanced clinical competency, required certifications, and the ability to perform complex patient care activities in support of diverse patient populations across approved specialty care departments within Jefferson Health. The Advanced Clinical Technician functions as a clinical resource to the care team, applying critical thinking and prioritization within scope, supporting safe and efficient unit operations, and assisting with onboarding and skill development of team members. This role contributes to the delivery of high-quality care by promoting best practices and addressing the physiological, emotional, and social needs of patients and families.

Job Duties

1. Communicates effectively with the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners to support care delivery and patient flow.
2. Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members of approved specialty care departments, demonstrating increased clinical competency and efficiency in completing assigned responsibilities.
3. Performs a broader range of patient care activities and technical skills aligned with training, certification, and department needs, within defined scope of role.
4. Applies critical thinking to recognize and communicate changes in patient condition, escalating concerns appropriately to licensed clinical team members.
5. Supports patient safety initiatives by adhering to established protocols, identifying potential risks, and contributing to a safe patient care environment.
6. Assists with coordination of care activities and patient throughput, supporting efficient unit operations.
7. Maintains required certifications and competencies, demonstrating ongoing skill development and adherence to best practices.
8. Provides guidance and support to new or less experienced team members in day-to-day tasks as appropriate, without formal supervisory responsibility.
9. Assists in maintaining supplies, equipment, and readiness of the clinical environment to support safe and efficient care delivery.
10. May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate or other support roles based on department or campus needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 1 year of acute care, clinical experience or like patient setting required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team.
• Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role, including advanced skills.
• Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis.
• Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
• Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care.
• Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
• Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.
