Offshore Structural Engineer Subsea Design & Lifting

Position Overview As Offshore Structural Engineer, you will respond to the Offshore Structural Lead and be part of the Asset Based Business Line within the Engineering function. You will support the ongoing EPCI projects in the Americas region performing structural calculations, design for lifting and rigging, and seafastening. Responsibilities Design incorporated subsea structures and associated installation aids and sea-fastening for deepwater and shallow water field development. Perform technical tasks such as structural analyses, calculations, design, verification, study activities, and specification/requisition writing. Provide data to Designers to allow the creation of 3D and 2D design drawings; review the design drawings. Interface with other Project Specialists (installation, geotechnical, flowline, subsea equipment, fabrication, etc.) and Designers. Accumulating experience about design limitations and constraints imposed by offshore installation and related vessels. Support the Subsea Structural Lead for coordination and review of technical activities performed inside or outside Saipem. Participate and contribute to: Project progress meetings Engineering coordination meetings Interface meetings with client, other contractors and sub‑contractors Technical review meetings (pertaining to procurement, engineering, fabrication, operation, interface) Health, safety and environmental meetings Risk assessments Design structural systems and components, pursuing objectives of robust engineering and design optimisation in terms of cost, fabrication simplicity, constructability and safety. Select the most relevant design loads and boundary conditions to maximise installation and in‑place acceptable configurations, even unexpected but always reasonably permissible. Ensure selected designs comply with all functional requirements, including constructability and offshore installability constraints. Select the most standard profiles and materials to simplify procurement; local procurement may be a constraint if requested by the project. Verify that permanent structures are sufficiently reliable for a long life without maintenance during the subsea field life, particularly accounting for redundancy, high reliability, corrosion and fatigue aspects. Ensure installation aids focus on operational practicality and worker safety. For permanent structures, liaise with other project discipline teams (offshore installation, geotechnical, flowline, subsea equipment, fabrication, material, etc.) to obtain confirmation of preliminary load cases or fabrication assumptions. For installation aids, liaise with the installation method team to clarify functional scope and define the technical structural solution. Carry out, check and supervise structural analyses, defining own load and boundary condition assumptions and selecting appropriate modelling (hand calculation, beam model, FEA model) to demonstrate structural capacity. Use industry calculation software following user manuals for appropriate selection and application of numerical tools. Interface with the Designer to provide data necessary for creation of 3D and 2D design drawings (geometrical, material, welding, tolerance and functional data). Supervise and approve steel structures design drawings. Review client technical documentation and requirements, and provide answers to client comments. Contribute to defining structural design premises. Write design reports and calculation notes. Supervise the setup of bill of quantities or material take‑off (MTO). Key Qualifications Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. 3–5 years of experience as a structural engineer within Offshore Oil and Gas or Wind industries. Fluency in English. Knowledge of FEA suites (SACS, ABAQUS or ANSYS) and CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor or SolidWorks). Ability to travel abroad for project assignments. Benefits Permanent contract.
