Newborn Hearing Screening Technician

Location Vanderbilt University Medical Center - Medical Center East, 4th Floor, Nashville, Tennessee. Schedule Full‑time position, 32 hours per week. Available shifts: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Coverage based on clinical needs, including PTO coverage, illness‑related call‑outs, weekday and weekend shifts. Job Summary Performs state‑mandated newborn hearing screenings with audiologist oversight. Maintains and prepares supplies and equipment, materials and/or information development. Responsibilities Perform hearing screenings for all eligible newborns in the newborn nursery. Conduct infant hearing screening procedures according to established clinical protocols. Communicate screening results to parents and caregivers verbally and through educational materials. Document hearing screening results accurately in the electronic health record (EPIC). Maintain screening equipment and report equipment concerns as needed. Collaborate with the Pediatric Division Director regarding patient, equipment, or staffing concerns. Support Vanderbilt's commitment to high‑quality pediatric and family‑centered care. Perform universal newborn hearing screenings in accordance with hospital policies, state Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) requirements, and evidence‑based protocols. Ensure timely screening of eligible infants, accurate documentation, effective communication with families and care teams, and appropriate referral/follow‑up coordination. Qualifications Experience working with newborns, infants, young children, or families preferred. Healthcare, pediatric, childcare, medical assistant, patient care, or related experience is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Flexible, dependable, and team‑oriented mindset.
