Assistant Controller

Our client is a privately held national real estate organization with a lean, high-performing corporate finance team. The business has undergone a full finance transformation - new ERP, data infrastructure, and a fully AI-integrated accounting environment already built and deployed. The team is intentionally small. Growth here is vertical, not through headcount. Newly created Assistant Controller position reporting directly to senior finance leadership. You will own the full month-end close independently, operate within a best-in-class tech stack, and be expected to deliver not just numbers but perspective. The close target is 10 days, with a 5-day mechanical close. This is not a head-down role. It is built for someone who thinks critically, moves fast, and wants real visibility from day one. What You'll Own Execute the full GL close independently in NetSuite Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations Deliver financial insights alongside the close - capital movement, position, variances Identify and implement process automation using existing AI tools - including Claude, fully integrated across NetSuite, email, and internal data systems Support ongoing ERP and systems initiatives Operate as a trusted resource within a lean, high-trust finance team Profile Roughly 5 years of accounting experience (range 3 to 7) Corporate accounting background where financials are assembled, not just processed Public accounting start preferred, with transition to industry Strong NetSuite proficiency or comparable ERP experience Technology-forward mindset - must be comfortable working alongside AI tools like Claude in day-to-day workflows Ownership mentality - comfortable closing the books without hand-holding CPA not required Must be local to Nashville or willing to relocate; role is fully in-office Note All candidates must complete a Predictive Index (PI) assessment as part of the process.
