Aquatic Coordinator

Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Aquatic Coordinator assists in maintaining proper health and safety standards, assists with supervising lifeguards and instructors, and assists in the general supervision of the aquatic facilities both within the facility and outdoor seasonal facilities, as assigned. A minimum of 50% of incumbent's time will be hands-on instructing, guarding and supervising. The incumbent must have the ability to model the mission of the YMCA, and carry it out in a professional manner. The emphasis of this position will be placed on the development and supervision of all non-competitive swim programs for all ages and to ensure quality aquatic programs are delivered into the community.

Essential Functions:

1. Have a complete understanding of the operations of the Aquatic Department.
2. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to ensuring the well-being of all participants, guests, members and staff.
3. Assist Aquatic Director in identifying and developing well-rounded, quality aquatic programs for all ages and levels, meeting the aquatic objectives and are of excellent value.
4. Ensure the delivery of quality programs that stress safety, fun, and an environment of friendly learning and are consistent with the YMCA's mission.
5. Maintain a neat, orderly and safe pool deck.
6. Assists in overseeing and maintaining the pool cleaning schedule for the aquatic facility, as assigned, this can include outdoor seasonal facilities as well.
7. Work closely with the Aquatic Director to maintain a cohesive, well-developed, highly trained staff team and assist with the scheduling of aquatic staff as well as providing direct, hands-on support to the aquatic staff.
8. Ensure all guards and instructors and actively engaged in their role and responsibility.
9. Keep accurate attendance records, help schedule make-ups and additional records or paperwork as assigned.
10. Support the Aquatic Leadership team in all forms of communication to parents and participants.
11. Follow the house rules and expect the same of his/her staff.
12. Promote a "member friendly and family friendly" environment.
13. Spend time with the students and parents to ensure all expectations are met.
14. Keep the Aquatic Director and Assistant Aquatic Director apprised of activities, situations or concerns in the pool area or staffing.
15. Maintain a professional appearance
16. Attend all mandatory meeting, as well as those recommended by supervisor

Requirements:

1. The incumbent must be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience with an emphasis on scheduling multiple pools and locations.
2. The incumbent must be currently certified in First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguarding, O2, and AED. Lifeguard Trainer, WSI or YSI recommended at time of hire or secured within one year.
3. Must have the ability to conduct, record and analyze in-services and drills to ensure all guards' skills are reviewed consistently and remain strong.
4. The incumbent must have experience in supervising and evaluating employees and arranging work schedules.
5. Skills in public relations, as well as good written and verbal communication skills are required.
6. Ability to develop positive relationships with members, volunteers and staff are essential.
7. Incumbent must have ability to assist with hiring, training and supervising swim instructors and other aquatic staff.
8. Ability to support and act on behalf of the Aquatic Director in their absence.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Normal amounts of walking, standing, sitting, running, jumping, lifting, pushing, pulling, speaking, reading, and writing. Must be able to hear, see and respond quickly to patron's needs.
