Job Description:\n\nINDUSTRIAL MILLWRIGHT FOREMAN We are seeking an experienced Traveling Industrial Millwright Foreman with a strong background in industrial machine installation to lead field crews on complex equipment installation, relocation, maintenance, and commissioning projects. This role requires more than hands-on mechanical ability. The ideal candidate understands the full installation process from initial equipment layout through production startup. They can take a set of prints, a truckload of equipment, and a project scope, then turn it into a working production machine by planning the workflow, laying out equipment, coordinating crews, ordering materials, communicating with the customer, updating the office, managing job site documentation, and executing the installation plan from start to finish. The right candidate will have several years of field experience with an industrial contractor, mechanical installation company, or OEM installation team. They should be comfortable leading crews while also performing advanced millwright work, including machinery installation, precision alignment, rigging, mechanical troubleshooting, equipment layout, field fabrication, and commissioning support. This is a travel-based position. Typical project rotations are 11 days, with all travel time compensated, a daily per diem provided, and travel-related expenses covered. This is the right role for a field leader who takes ownership of the job, communicates clearly, solves problems in real time, and knows how to bring an industrial installation from planning to production. Key Responsibilities Installation Planning & Foreman LeadershipLead industrial machine installation projects from initial layout through startup, commissioning, and production handoff.Interpret mechanical prints, layout drawings, assembly drawings, OEM manuals, equipment lists, and project specifications to develop a clear installation plan.Take ownership of field execution by organizing labor, tools, materials, equipment, rigging needs, workflow, and daily crew priorities.Lay out equipment locations, establish installation sequence, verify dimensions, identify conflicts, and coordinate adjustments in the field.Lead and work alongside millwright crews, helpers, apprentices, temporary labor, and subcontracted support.Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, maintain quality standards, and ensure the crew understands the plan, expectations, and safety requirements.Coordinate with project managers, office staff, customers, vendors, OEM representatives, and other trades to keep the job moving.Order, request, and track materials, consumables, rental equipment, tools, and job site resources needed to complete the installation.Maintain daily reports, progress updates, labor tracking, material usage, punch lists, field notes, and project documentation.Communicate schedule concerns, material shortages, field conflicts, scope changes, and customer requests to project management in a timely and professional manner.Represent the company professionally with customers and serve as the primary field contact during installation work. Machinery Installation & CommissioningInstall industrial machinery and production equipment in accordance with OEM specifications, engineering drawings, project requirements, and customer expectations.Set, level, align, anchor, grout, assemble, and verify industrial equipment on concrete foundations, structural steel, machine bases, and production lines.Assemble complex mechanical systems including gearboxes, reducers, conveyor systems, tension stands, capstans, payoff and take-up systems, extrusion equipment, wire drawing equipment, and associated drive trains.Install and fit couplings, sheaves, sprockets, belts, chains, bearings, seals, guards, and mechanical power transmission components.Support new equipment startup and commissioning activities; identify and correct mechanical issues before production handoff.Work on a variety of industrial machinery, including wire drawing machines, extrusion lines, press molds, blown film equipment, cable manufacturing equipment, and general production machinery.Verify installation quality throughout the process and ensure completed work is ready for customer acceptance and production use. Precision AlignmentLead and perform precision shaft alignment and coupling alignment on rotating equipment using laser alignment systems and dial indicator methods.Execute soft-foot correction, base condition assessment, thermal growth compensation, coupling inspection, and pre-alignment checks.Align belt and chain drives, verify sheave and sprocket alignment, and set proper tension on all drive components.Document as-found and as-left alignment conditions and maintain accurate records for project turnover packages.Troubleshoot misalignment-related vibration, premature wear, bearing failures, and rotating equipment performance issues. Rigging & Equipment HandlingPlan, coordinate, and execute industrial rigging operations for the movement, lifting, setting, and positioning of heavy machinery and production equipment.Determine rigging approach, lift sequence, equipment access, staging requirements, and safe movement paths.Use and supervise the use of overhead cranes, forklifts, chain hoists, come-alongs, hydraulic jacks, rollers, skates, gantries, and related equipment-handling tools.Select and inspect rigging hardware including slings, shackles, spreader bars, lifting fixtures, and below-the-hook devices.Support plant relocation projects including equipment disconnection, match-marking, preparation for transport, unloading, layout, setting, alignment, reconnect support, and recommissioning. Preventive Maintenance & Mechanical TroubleshootingLead and perform scheduled preventive maintenance on industrial machinery, including lubrication, bearing inspection and replacement, seal replacement, belt and chain service, and general mechanical inspection.Diagnose and repair mechanical failures including bearing failures, gear damage, shaft wear, coupling failures, drive system breakdowns, and equipment fit-up issues.Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble gearboxes, reducers, pumps, fans, conveyors, and rotating equipment.Measure critical dimensions and clearances using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, levels, straightedges, and other precision measuring tools.Identify root causes of recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to improve uptime, reliability, and equipment performance.Lead repairs under production pressure while maintaining safety, organization, and clear communication with the customer and project team. Fabrication & Field ModificationLead and perform field fabrication of machine guards, motor mounts, base plates, brackets, supports, and custom mechanical components.Perform layout, cutting, fitting, drilling, grinding, and light welding as required by job scope.Modify existing equipment and structures to accommodate machine changes, upgrades, layout conflicts, or installation requirements.Work from sketches, field measurements, mechanical drawings, and engineering plans to produce functional field modifications.Use MIG, TIG, or stick welding when required by the job and within demonstrated capability. Safety, Quality & CommunicationEnforce job site safety requirements and ensure crew participation in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and daily planning discussions.Follow and enforce lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work permits, lift plans, and site-specific safety programs.Maintain high standards for housekeeping, tool control, equipment care, workmanship, and job site professionalism.Coordinate closely with electrical, controls, plumbing, pipefitting, OEM, and project management teams on integrated turnkey installation and relocation projects.Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress notes, labor tracking, material usage, alignment records, lift planning notes, punch lists, and turnover information. Required QualificationsMinimum 7 years of hands-on industrial millwright experience in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, mechanical contracting, or OEM installation environment.Minimum 2 years of foreman, lead millwright, crew lead, or field supervision experience.Strong background in industrial machine installation, including layout, setting, leveling, anchoring, alignment, assembly, startup support, and production handoff.Proven ability to take mechanical prints, project scope, and delivered equipment and develop an organized installation plan from start to finish.Experience planning workflow, coordinating crews, ordering materials, managing tools and equipment, and communicating with both customers and office personnel.Ability to lead field crews while actively performing advanced millwright work.Strong working knowledge of precision alignment, rotating equipment, mechanical power transmission, bearings, couplings, seals, gearboxes, reducers, belt drives, and chain drives.Demonstrated proficiency with laser alignment tools, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, feeler gauges, levels, straightedges, and other precision measuring instruments.Experience planning and executing heavy equipment rigging using cranes, forklifts, chain hoists, jacks, rollers, skates, slings, shackles, and spreader bars.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, layout drawings, OEM installation manuals, and engineering specifications.Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve field installation issues and equipment failures.Metal fabrication and light welding capability for guards, mounts, bases, brackets, supports, and field modifications.Strong communication skills with the ability to interface professionally with customers, project managers, office staff, vendors, subcontractors, and other trades.Ability to complete daily reports, material requests, progress updates, punch lists, and field documentation accurately and consistently.Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.Willingness and availability to travel domestically on 11-day project rotations. Preferred QualificationsPrior experience with an industrial contractor, mechanical installation company, machinery relocation company, or OEM equipment installation team.OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry certification.Confined Space Entry certification.First Aid and CPR certification.Rigging certification or documented formal rigging training.Experience with wire and cable manufacturing equipment.Experience with CV lines, vertical processing lines, extrusion lines, wire drawing machines, or other high-precision production equipment.Welding certification in MIG, TIG, or Stick welding.Basic electrical knowledge, including motor reconnection support, bump testing, and coordination with electrical trades.Basic pipefitting or plumbing knowledge in support of utility reconnection on machine installations.Experience training apprentices, helpers, temporary labor, or multi-person field crews.Familiarity with vibration analysis, dynamic balancing, predictive maintenance, or reliability-based maintenance practices.Experience with job site planning, lift planning, material coordination, rental equipment coordination, and project turnover packages.
