Centerless Grinder Operator in Commerce, CA — $30.00–$35.00/hr DOE, 3rd shift, contract-to-hire. Set up and operate precision centerless grinding equipment.

Shift: 3rd shift, Sunday–Thursday, 9:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Close-tolerance grinding takes a good setup and someone who keeps checking the result.

Set up and operate centerless grinding equipment to produce cylindrical surfaces, angles, contours, and tapered metal components. Adjust the process and inspect your work to hold tolerances as tight as ±0.0005 inch.

The workweek starts Sunday night. Expect extended standing and handling loads up to 50 lb around grinding machinery, metalworking fluids, noise, and airborne particles.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Set up and operate centerless and precision grinding equipment

- Mount and dress grinding and regulating wheels to specification

- Adjust speeds, feeds, wheel spacing, and machine settings

- Read blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and process documentation

- Plan grinding sequences and material removal to hold specified tolerances

- Inspect first articles and production parts with micrometers, calipers, and gauges

- Troubleshoot setup and grinding process issues

- Record production and inspection results in computerized systems

WHAT YOU NEED

- 1–3 years operating centerless grinding equipment

- Experience with machine setup, wheel dressing, and cylindrical grinding

- Ability to hold tolerances to ±0.0005 inch

- Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T

- Experience with precision inspection tools

- Familiarity with SPC and manufacturing quality standards

- Basic computer skills for production data entry

- Aerospace manufacturing experience

- High-volume production machining experience

- CNC grinding support equipment experience

- Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement knowledge

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand for extended periods, handle tooling and parts, and lift and move up to 50 lb while setting up and operating grinding equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Machine shop conditions include grinding machinery, moving mechanical equipment, cutting oils and metalworking fluids, airborne particles, noise, and vibration. PPE is required and provided, and all plant safety procedures apply.
