Role Description The Learning Assistant II will be responsible for providing academic assistance, mentoring, and learning‑centered tutoring to currently enrolled students based on an assessment of student needs. Essential Job Functions Provides one‑on‑one or small group tutoring to currently enrolled students in a particular discipline. Assesses academic ability of students being tutored using provided measurement instruments. Meets with supervisory staff on a regular scheduled basis to discuss academic progress of students being tutored. Assists supervisor with academic needs assessment. Documents student progress for each session using provided instruments. Implements an academic action plan for each session using provided instruments. Participates in staff development training. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Evidence of successful completion of college‑level academic work. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to follow instructions from supervisor and other faculty. Ability to work a variety of hours, which includes nights and weekends. Ability to use computer hardware and software programs related to the discipline area. Ability to tutor individuals or small groups of students in advanced coursework. Ability to use appropriate learning techniques/strategies to achieve specific learning outcomes. Working Conditions This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee routinely operates standard office equipment including computers, keyboards, mice, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate. The role requires frequent stationary work, moving, reaching, positioning, occasional lifting of 5‑15 pounds, and frequent communication, problem solving, and decision making.
