Boring Fixture Mechanic - 56906 Company: The Boeing Company (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) Position Overview As a Boring Fixture Mechanic you will shape the components that keep our aviation technology advancing. The role demands a blend of technical mastery, problem‑solving, and hands‑on craftsmanship to keep every part accurate, reliable, and compliant with safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Independently set up, operate, and adjust assigned power feed drilling machines for operations such as drilling, reaming, boring, honing, spot facing, countersinking, counterboring, and finishing while ensuring machining meets quality requirements and specifications. Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, and tools to set up machines and inspect machined parts for dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Select and secure appropriate tools, fixtures, machine attachments, and equipment; design and fabricate precision‑checking fixtures as needed. Interpret information from charts, tables, blueprints, handbook formulas, sketches, verbal instructions, and job layouts; apply shop mathematics including trigonometry. Perform layout work and bench work as necessary to finish parts to meet quality standards. Plan and sequence work operations to optimize workflow and efficiency, maximize machine capacity utilization, and minimize machining time and the number of setups required. Identify and replace defective tools or equipment promptly to maintain operational efficiency. Adjust and maintain proper feed rates for oils and coolants to ensure optimal machine performance and part quality. Physical Demands and Potential Hazards Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights 10–15lbs to 15–35lbs, reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting. Work may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants; proximity to moving parts, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards. Operate in varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions while wearing personal safety gear to protect face, eyes, hands, arms, and feet. Location and Working Conditions 100% onsite; selected candidate will work onsite at one of the listed locations. Eligibility Position requires a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Basic Qualifications 3+ years experience with aircraft fuselage or wing structures assembly, maintenance, or repair. 3+ years experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators. 1+ year experience utilizing Microsoft Office and office computing systems. 1+ year experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings. Ability to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8‑hour shift. Experience setting up boring mills and/or jig bore machines. Preferred Qualifications 1+ year experience in machine shop processes, geometric dimensioning & tolerances, and machining capabilities of different materials. 1+ year experience working with detailed tasks under moderate to heavy distractions or interruptions. Education High school graduate or GED preferred. Benefits & Compensation Hourly pay $26.32/h, potential to earn up to $56.45/h per the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
