Security OfficerWe are seeking a dedicated and vigilant School Security Guard to join our committed team of professionals. As a Security Guard, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for monitoring buildings and grounds, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and responding promptly and appropriately to situations that may arise throughout the school day. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate strong situational awareness, sound judgment, professionalism, and exceptional interpersonal skills while fostering positive relationships with students and staff.Essential Job Functions:Ensure safety of studentsAssist Principal in identifying problems related to building and grounds securityMake contacts with the public with tact and diplomacyMaintain respect at all times for confidential informationInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationMaintain district buildings and grounds surveillance during prescribed hours to ensure securityMonitor individual's presence on grounds and provide surveillance to discourage vandalismPromote good social relationships between studentsCheck window conditions to note steam or other indicators of problemsCheck for evidence of water seeping from ground floor doorways and other indicators of a water line breakCheck for lights in the building other that the normal security beams and other indicators of entryTake reasonable precautions to protect personnel, equipment, materials and facilitiesMonitor and supervise studentsInteract with classroom teachers and administratorsAssist in upholding and enforcing administrative regulations and Board policyReport acts of vandalism, potential maintenance problems, and indicators of illegal entry, suspicious trespassers, or other potential problems to the following individuals (sequential order of contact depending on nature of situation): Building Principal, Building Custodian, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, Police, Fire Department, available AdministratorEstablish and maintain cooperative relations with othersProject a positive public relations image for the districtComplies with the concepts outline in Board policies, and administrative instructions issued within the framework of assigned responsibilitiesAlters surveillance patterns frequently to increase effective presenceMakes a minimum of two (2) surveillance checks on all buildings and grounds within the allotted time during an assigned shiftMaintain a daily log reflecting the following: start/end odometer readings; building surveillance times; and unusual observationsMust be willing to flex time as needed for high profile district after school and night eventsProvide security coverage and support at school and district community events during assigned hours, including after-school and evening events as scheduled.Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned by the building principal or designeeOther Duties and Responsibilities:Assist with supervision of restroom breaks/lunchRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerServe as a role model for studentsQualifications:One year related experienceAppropriate licensing and driving record to safely operate a district vehicle while fulfilling the responsibilities of the positionRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsBasic training in first aid and CPREquipment Operated:Security Cameras and EquipmentDistrict vehicleTelephone and Two Way RadioAbout Our District:The Garfield Heights City Schools proudly serve the students and families of the City of Garfield Heights.
