Assistant Mechanic

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

· Assist the mechanic in inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining diesel trucks and trailers; oil changes, preventative maintenance services, greasing, tire changes, etc.

· Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment and technical manuals to identify mechanical and electrical faults.

· Perform routine maintenance, replace faulty parts, and ensure that all equipment operates safely and efficiently according to manufacturer specifications.

· Assist in disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling engine parts and mechanical components.

· Identify and report driver abuse of equipment

· Conduct performance tests after repairs to ensure proper functionality and safety

· Help with basic welding or fabrication when required.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace by properly storing tools, cleaning up spills, and disposing of hazardous materials.

· Work with Safety/Quality Control Coordinator on vehicle status and availability; monitor fleet records and manage maintenance schedules, calibrations, inspections, and repairs.

Education, Skills and Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training preferred.

· Excellent execution skills, highly focused task completion, follow-up, communication (written and verbal) and time management skills.

· Requires resourcefulness, strong organization skills, and flexibility with hybrid work location/schedule.

· Positive outlook, desire to support and interact with others daily in an exciting, challenging, and ever-changing work environment.

· Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a professional attitude; great team-player and ability to accept feedback.

· Must exercise initiative and achieve objectives with minimal supervision.

· Must be detail-oriented and a problem-solver able to deal with complex situations.

· Valid driver’s license and auto insurance coverage with good driving record; CDL license preferred. .

Physical Requirements

· This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry materials or supplies weighing 50 pounds or less.

· Good physical stamina; ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding or uncomfortable positions for long periods.

· Some travel may be required; must be willing to travel to jobsites as needed.

· Conduct activities in a safe manner, follow corporate safety guidelines and requirements, use personal protective equipment, and proactively address any unsafe conditions observed.
