The Psychiatric Nursing Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of the behavioral health nurses, psychiatric practitioners (both contracted and on-staff, administration supervision only) and care coordinators in Brunswick, Halifax and Mecklenburg County, and leading a comprehensive system of psychiatric services (mental health, substance use disorders, children through elderly adults). This responsibility will include preparing performance evaluations and providing ongoing supervision. Ensures nursing coverage and/or provides nursing services when coverage is needed for children, adolescents and adults with behavioral health and substance use disorders who are in SBH behavioral health outpatient services. Provides supervision and care coordination assignments to care coordinators for both adult and child clients. Provides administrative supervision and coordinates clinic coverage to psychiatric practitioners (contracted psychiatrists and on-staff nurse practitioners) for both adult, child and/or substance use disorder clients. Maintains required documentation and medical records; reviews individuals’ medical profiles in EHR and updates medication list as needed; responsible for chart audits and reviewing the documentation of the behavioral health nurses and care coordinators for compliance; participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings and coordinates with other SBH staff; coordinates with other medical providers such as primary care physicians as needed. Obtains vital signs on individuals at the time of their medication evaluation and management appointment; provides individual and family education on Body Mass Index (BMI); assists psychiatric medication providers during appointments and as needed. Administers injections as prescribed by SBH psychiatric medication providers; completes prior authorizations; monitors lab results and notifies psychiatric medication providers of any changes. Will ensure that services are being provided to any client that presents to any SBH locations. Ensure staff will follow proper protocols of servicing individuals who may not be a client but that may present with some medical needs. Ensure that nursing staff contact 911 in emergency medical situations. Monitors individuals for any adverse reactions to medications and informs the psychiatric provider. Oversees assigned programs’ needs, staff development and supervision, reporting routinely to the Director of Clinical Services/Executive Director. Collaborates with all other behavioral health departments including Adult, CFS and Community Based Services. Responsibilities Works with the Director of Clinical Services in the coordination and implementation of a system of mental health and/or substance use disorder psychiatric services for children through adults. Provides on-site nursing services as needed and may work remotely on non-clinic days to perform administrative and supervisory duties. Provides training and supervision to licensed behavioral health nurses and care coordinators. Provides administrative supervision to psychiatric practitioners. Processes psychiatric referrals. Coordinates and processes psychiatric discharges. Coordinates clinic schedules for Adult and Child Psychiatry. Completes performance evaluations for behavioral health nurses and care coordinators in accordance with SBH policies and procedures. Responsible for chart audits of clients in Care Coordination assigned to BH nursing staff and reviewing the documentation of the behavioral health nurses and care coordinators for compliance. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) formal training in the state of Virginia. At least three years of nursing experience required, and at least two years providing nursing services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorder preferred. Experience in supervision of nursing staff in medical or psychiatric facility. Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
