Job Description

DESCRIPTION: The responsibilities for the Maintenance II position, under the direction of the Maintenance Director, are to assist in the successful operation of the maintenance department, following District procedures and standards, while adhering to safety requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma.
2. Possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
3. Have a minimum of two years of experience in grounds maintenance, in addition to the quali?cations mentioned above.
4. Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
6. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
7. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
8. Demonstrate integrity, loyalty and professionalism
9. First aid card or willingness to obtain

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Open elementary building at 6:30 a.m. each morning
2. Make sure building is ready for use and that there are no malfunctions of equipment; perform minor repairs, if needed
3. Raise Washington State and American flags
4. Pickup and delivery of district mail/freight from main office each day
5. Check bulletin board in shop for needed or requested repairs as posed by principal and/or night custodians
6. Report to maintenance shop for additional assignments for the day
7. Share in daily outdoor garbage compaction duties
8. Assist with commodity deliveries
9. Work with district building maintenance personnel on repair of items in buildings when time permits
10. Paint and complete sign work during winter months
11. Clean shop and organize in maintenance complex as needed
12. Conduct daily, weekly, monthly and annual playground inspections with written reports
13. Fulfill other related duties as assigned or requested by supervisor

SEASONAL DUTIES:

1. Assist Maintenance I and III with snow removal and de-icing of all sidewalks, landings, entryways, and parking lots throughout the district
2. Assist Maintenance I and III in watering all lawn and playfield areas
3. Service all grounds equipment and report and malfunctions of equipment to supervisor or district mechanic
4. Operate spraying equipment, weed burner, fertilizer spreader, tractor, blade, roller, pipe trailer etc. under supervision
5. Report malfunctions of equipment to supervisor or district mechanic
6. Keep playground equipment in good repair, caring for shrubbery, water and weed control
7. Maintain underground sprinkler system
8. Keep sprinkler hoses and sprinkler heads in good condition
9. Assist Maintenance I and III with lining, dragging, and watering infields of all playing fields
10. Occasional mowing of district lawns
11. Check tires, mower blades, sweeper fingers, etc.
12. Assist Maintenance I and III with policing parking lots and grounds for trash and any other duties as directed pertaining to grounds care
13. Fulfill other related duties as assigned or requested by supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:


Required to stand and walk for prolonged periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; carry, push, stoop, reach and ability to handle and perform fine motor functions. Required to shift tasks and priorities; experience frequent interruptions; requires flexibility and adaptability; perform repetitive tasks; requires individual initiative and teamwork; ability to communicate with students and staff. Requires effective decision making and problem solving; and excellent listening skills.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
