Center for Student Advocacy & Wellness (CSAW) provides outreach and education around holistic wellness through a lens of prevention, harm reduction, and survivor-centeredness in order to cultivate communities of care on campus. Job Summary:
The Health Promotion Specialist delivers high quality, evidence-based and -informed health promotion programs and services to students. This position is primarily student-facing and will work with individual students and student groups. This role will require some night and weekend work.

Pay Range: The pay range for the Health Promotion Specialist is $54,000-57,500 per year, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Principal Accountabilities:

BASICS 50%

• Program Administration
  • Provide referral guidelines and consultation to referring staff (Athletics, Student Conduct, Residential Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and other University entities/officials).
  • Oversee the utilization of a web-based system for BASICS scheduling, screening, feedback reports and documentation, including training of end-users.
• Service Delivery
  • Provide individual brief motivational interventions (BASICS) for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students (up to 18 sessions per week).

Brief Motivational Interventions and Consultation 25%

• Provide brief motivational interventions on a range of health and wellness-related topics, including, but not limited to sleep, stress reduction, alcohol and tobacco cessation, and exercise.
• Provide alcohol and other drug misuse consultation.
• Provide wellness coaching.

Prevention Programming 25%

• Facilitate educational programs for student groups on a variety of wellness topics, including but not limited to mental health promotion, stress reduction, and alcohol and other drug misuse prevention.
• Assist in administration of group educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• Training/experience in motivational interviewing.
• Experience and/or training in alcohol and other drug misuse prevention or intervention with college students or young adults.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Competencies:

• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and with integrity.
• Awareness of personal boundaries and ability to provide self-care.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

• Master's degree in public health, social work, counseling or a related field
• A minimum of one year of experience in providing BASICS or Brief Motivational Interventions (BMI) preferred.
• Understanding of college student development.
• Understanding of harm reduction in substance use prevention.
