Make a real impact by guiding a young student’s educational journey in a meaningful one-on-one environment. This contract opportunity is based in Albany, New York, providing specially tailored instruction to a medically fragile seven-year-old who resides in a nursing home. Your expertise as a Special Education Teacher will play a vital role in supporting this student’s academic progress and well-being.
In this role, you’ll deliver instruction directly to the student for 2-3 hours each day, emphasizing individualized attention and compassionate support. You'll collaborate closely with caregivers and related service providers, ensuring educational needs are met while being mindful of the student’s unique health considerations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current certification in Special Education (appropriate for teaching grades K-12 or Elementary level)
- Experience supporting medically fragile or high-needs students is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and documentation
- Ability to create personalized, engaging lesson plans based on a student’s specific abilities and needs
- Clear communication skills for working with healthcare and educational professionals
- Compassionate demeanor and adaptability to changing circumstances
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 instruction according to the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Foster a nurturing and supportive learning environment within the nursing home setting
- Monitor and document student progress and modify instructional strategies when needed
- Collaborate with the student’s caregiving and medical teams to ensure a holistic approach to education
- Maintain detailed records and report on educational milestones
