Mechanical Specialist (CL3) We are seeking a Mechanical Specialist (CL3) to perform advanced installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting work for University facilities. Responsibilities include coordinating projects, prioritizing and assigning work, interpreting blueprints and technical diagrams, ordering materials, and collaborating with campus departments and skilled trades staff. The position works with minimal supervision and may provide direction, training, and guidance to employees on project sites while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with occasional nights, weekends, and after‑hours emergencies. This role is designated as an Essential Employee. Pay & Benefits Starting pay: $26.33 per hour or transfer rate. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least 4 years experience in a skilled trade such as HVAC systems. Ability to perform maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on equipment and building systems. Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and technical instructions. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment. Knowledge of safe work practices and maintenance procedures. Ability to organize work, handle multiple tasks, and help direct projects. Ability to do physical work, including lifting and moving materials. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one by hire date. Preferred Qualifications Trade licenses or certifications related to HVAC, specifically a Master’s license. State of Maine Oil Board License. Experience leading projects or training others. Experience ordering materials and estimating project costs. Experience using computerized diagnostic or maintenance systems. Experience working in schools, commercial buildings, or large facilities.
