Supervisor, Patient Access - Doral

Located in the new state‑of‑the‑art facility in Downtown Doral, the University of Miami Health System’s Patient Access Department offers a 160,000 square‑foot environment that supports a wide range of clinical services across the Doral community. Core Job Summary The Supervisor, Patient Access (On‑Site) leads the day‑to‑day business and clinical support operations of an assigned location and Tier 1 team. The role ensures smooth operational patient flow by managing front‑end revenue cycle and clinic support functions for hospital and practice‑based sites within the University of Miami Health System. The Supervisor anticipates patient volume, monitors flow and staff productivity, and maintains a pleasant, organized atmosphere for all patients, customers, visitors, and staff. Core Responsibilities Obtain, confirm, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information necessary for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts. Orient, train, evaluate, and monitor registration staff, using positive reinforcement and recognition. Ensure staff adherence to all established policies and procedures. Assist with planning, organizing, and scheduling to accommodate daily expected volumes. Communicate patient flow issues to appropriate managing staff. Verify patient demographic and insurance information, and edit information as necessary. Explain consent for treatment, financial liability, and HIPAA to patients. Initiate performance management processes to address ongoing performance issues. Collect outstanding patient account balances, run end‑of‑day reports, and ensure accurate accounting of collected funds and deposits. Identify and recommend process changes that improve overall performance and efficiency of the registration process. Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Train employees on internal controls and University policy and procedures. Monitor staff compliance with key business initiatives and inspire the team to achieve established key performance indicators such as patient satisfaction, co‑pay and previous balance collections, registration processing time, and denials. Maintain harmonious and collaborative relationships with all healthcare team members. Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum four years of relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others. Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
