Bus Monitor - Amery, Wisconsin ($14.32/HR)

Job Responsibilities Conduct daily child health observation to determine child health status or injuries for children boarding the bus. Obtain and secure child medications for pickup and delivery, documenting activities appropriately. Ensure child safety and supervision during transportation, including proper use of child safety restraints, monitoring secured status, and managing “Red Bags.” Assist Bus Driver during emergencies, evacuation drills, and maintain vehicle sanitary conditions. Implement, monitor, and enforce bus rules while providing educational activities for school readiness and giving feedback to staff on observed behaviors and development. Act as liaison between parents and center staff, communicating center activities, child issues, and upcoming events. Engage children through activities such as singing, fingerplays, stories, and positive conversations. Document proper release of children from the school bus to parent, guardian, or designated person. Provide short‑term relief (breaks) to classroom staff under qualified teacher supervision when eligible. Offer interpretation services in the classroom, during coverage, home visits, and Parent/Teacher conferences when needed. Assist with staff/child ratios in classrooms, kitchen duties, or other center areas as assigned. Help the Bus Driver/Janitor clean and maintain the building and playground. Transport and supervise children and parents during meetings, field trips, health clinic visits, and other assigned events. Participate in trainings for serving children with disabilities or special needs, following individual IEP or IFSP guidelines. Assist in recruitment efforts, including outreach for children with disabilities. Provide support or training to other locations with some travel requirements. Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and program activities as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Be 18 years of age or older. High School Diploma or GED (subject to state childcare licensing requirements). Preferred to possess a CDA credential or enroll in the CDA program for classroom coverage. Ability to work irregular and flexible hours. Preferred bilingual Spanish and English (both oral and written). Dependable transportation to and from work. Work Environment, Physical, and Sensory Demands The position requires occasional pushing, handling boxes, bending, reaching, and standing for long hours. Occasionally required to drive to training sites or other tasks as requested. Frequently exposed to moderate temperature in a controlled environment. Occasionally exposed to moderate to high noise levels. Required to ride in a school bus. Occasionally exposed to bumpy travel conditions. Tools & Equipment Used Phones and computer system. Fax/copy machine, laminator, calculator. First aid equipment and fire extinguisher. Additional Eligibility Requirements Employment is contingent upon a criminal background check, completion of a physical exam, SIDS & Shaken Baby Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, Infant/Child CPR and First Aid, and a TB test screening within the specified timeframe. The position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
