Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1845-0715) Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Proficiency in Epic EMR, trauma level I/II hospital experience Description: Unit Notes: The role requires working in the Intensive Care Unit. Start dates are not flexible. A 100-mile radius rule is in effect. No guarantees for 48 hours. No blocked scheduling requests allowed. No more than 5 days of requested time off. Experience with trauma level I/II is required. Nurse-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2 in the ICU. If there are no vents or drips, the ratio can be 1:3. The unit has a total of 42 beds. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses include cardiac cases such as open heart surgery, balloon procedures, impella use, tPA administration, and TPE. The core staff addresses the specialties and retains small head bleeds when post-tPA administration is required, transferring more complex cases out. Previous experience with ventilators, sedation, sepsis, pressors, DKA, cardiac issues, CHF, and respiratory care is necessary. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set-rate drips include various vasopressors, inotropes, antiarrhythmics, anti-hypertensives, sedatives, paralytics, analgesics, anticoagulants, and insulin. Charge nurses are not present on shifts; staff assist with codes and rapid response team calls. Patient care technicians and nursing aides are available on the unit. Nurse-to-patient ratios for support staff are typically 1:10. The unit has intensivists available 24/7. Day shifts include two doctors and one nurse practitioner. Night shifts include one nurse practitioner and one doctor. Respiratory therapists are present in the ICU around the clock. They manage ventilator settings, intubations, and all arterial blood gases. Equipment operated by respiratory therapists includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices. They collaborate with registered nurses when assisting physicians with bedside tracheostomies. Every nurse on the unit has access to monitoring technology, with centralized tele monitoring available. The schedule allows for self-scheduling with four requested days off in a four-week period, though block scheduling is not guaranteed. Weekend shift requirements include four weekend days in a four-week period. Holiday requirements include two major holidays, with specific requirements only for Christmas. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating to other units may occur, where a maximum of four patients will be assigned rather than six. Scrubs must be navy blue. A brief orientation process will introduce new hires to unit-specific protocols and procedures. The cancellation policy allows for client cancellation of hours equivalent to the weekly guaranteed hours for the assignment.
