Job Description

The Engineering Technologist II provides intermediate-level technical and engineering support for utility and infrastructure projects, specializing in engineering permitting coordination and CAD-based design support. This role serves as a key resource for managing and standardizing permitting activities—including FAA, railroad, joint-use, and related engineering permits—across multiple projects to improve efficiency, consistency, and compliance.

Working closely with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders, the Engineering Technologist II supports project execution by preparing permit applications, maintaining technical documentation, coordinating approvals, and developing engineering drawings. The position requires strong organizational skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of engineering permits, including FAA, railroad, joint-use, and related regulatory approvals.
• Manage permitting activities across multiple concurrent projects while ensuring compliance with applicable requirements and timelines.
• Create, update, and maintain engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
• Serve as a technical resource for permitting processes and documentation standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to gather project information and prepare accurate permit submittals.
• Track permit status, maintain records, and communicate progress to project teams.
• Support process improvement initiatives focused on standardizing permitting workflows and reducing project redundancies.
• Maintain organized project documentation and technical records.
• Provide additional engineering and technical support as needed to meet project objectives.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering support, permitting coordination, technical operations, or a related role.
• Working knowledge of engineering principles, project execution processes, and technical documentation.
• Experience using AutoCAD or comparable CAD software.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting utility, infrastructure, telecommunications, transportation, or engineering projects.
• Knowledge of engineering, utility, or construction permitting processes.
• Familiarity with FAA permitting, railroad permitting, joint-use coordination, or similar regulatory requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation management skills.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering and project teams.

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based with occasional site or field visits.
• Hybrid work schedule with approximately three days per week onsite.
• Supports multiple engineers and active projects in a fast-paced project environment.
