Lower Elementary Teacher

Lower Elementary Teacher First Grade Placement Anticipated

The Lower Elementary Teacher is responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of first-grade students. The teacher delivers district-approved curriculum through whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction while using assessment data to inform teaching practices and monitor student progress. Working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community partners, the teacher fosters strong relationships that support student success. The position requires effective classroom management, ongoing communication with parents, implementation of equitable instructional practices, and participation in professional learning to enhance student achievement. The teacher maintains accurate student records, monitors attendance, and performs other duties as assigned by administration in support of the school's educational mission.

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan teaching certification with appropriate endorsement, required
• Ability to relate to students, parents, peers and partners
• Prefer experience with team teaching
• Proven classroom management and organizational skills
• Experience at elementary level is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach district approved curriculum
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in addition to whole group instruction
• Work collaboratively with other staff members
• Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
• Use MISTAR to record student attendance daily
• Use assessment/data to inform instruction and monitor process
• Participate in professional development activities both in-district as well as outside to enhance instructional effectiveness
• Use equitable teaching practices in the classroom
• Other duties as deemed necessary by administration.
• On site presence required

Terms of Employment:

Salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment shall be established by the Board of Education in accordance with district policy and applicable agreements.

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with district administrative procedures and applicable evaluation processes.
