Landscape Helper

The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining the landscaped areas of the City. Duties and responsibilities include planting and maintaining trees, plants, and flowers in landscaped areas.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Assists with maintenance of landscaped areas, including watering, weeding, mowing, pruning, and fertilizing.
• Operates various tools and equipment such as small gardening tools, lawn mowers, rake, garden tiller, or shovel in compliance with departmental safety regulations.
• Assists in the landscape designing of City property, and the planting of trees, plants, and flowers.
• Inspects assigned areas for debris and trash, and disposes of same.
• Performs minor maintenance and repairs for assigned area as required.

• Performs other related duties such as putting out seasonal decorations or changing out golf hole cups as required.

High School diploma, GED, or vocational school preferred, with one year of grounds keeping experience (or related) preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Ability to assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data and information, following a prescribed plan. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, and/or sort data and information.

Ability to add, subtract, measure, multiply and divide.

Ability to apply situational reasoning ability by exercising judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of pre-defined duties subject to some change. Ability to use functional reasoning development in the performance of semi-routine functions involving standardized work with some choice of activities.

Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring some adjustments. Ability to handle, load and unload, and move and guide material using simple tools. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing slightly skilled movements such as pruning or mowing. Ability to exert moderate physical stress in moderate to heavy work, involving climbing and balancing. Ability to handle, finger, and feel. Ability to lift, carry, push and pull. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.

Ability, in regard to environmental factors such as temperature variations, odors, toxic agents, violence, noise, vibrations, wetness, disease and/or dust, to work under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.
