The Medical Assistant provides assistance to the physicians and practitioners with patient care, administrative, environmental and organizational tasks. Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Greets patients and assists with patient flow;
• Administers medications, performs procedures directed by physician and practitioners
• Assists with preparatory activities such as taking and documenting vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight, and communicates abnormalities to physician or practitioner;
• Reviews and documents patient medical history including medications, allergies, and medical alerts, documents in the electronic medical record;
• Contacts patients with lab and test results and indicates required follow-up, as directed;
• Documents all medical contacts;
• Assists physician and practitioners with relaying instructions to patients and families;
• Replenishes supplies and removes biohazard waste from patient rooms as directed;
• Maintains any necessary logs;
• Participates in professional development activities to keep current with job responsibilities;
• Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
• Other duties as assigned.

Required education and/or experience:

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and;
• Two (2) year degree from a college or technical school, and;
• Medical assistant certification;
• One (1) year of previous experience as a medical assistant;
• 2-4 years' experience is preferred.
• Current CPR certification, if not it must be obtained within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter.
