Pay Rate: $50.00-$55.00 / Hour (USD)

Shift / Schedule: Flexible start times (7:00-3:30 or 8:00-4:30), 8 hours/day, Hybrid: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel (<20%) during construction windows to oversee installations; travel to wind farm sites in Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Travel reimbursement provided.

Job Summary

This is a Project Engineering (E&C Engineer) role supporting capital projects at wind farms across the region, primarily in Southwest Minnesota with sites across Minnesota, South Dakota, and nearby areas. The engineer will manage a portfolio of approximately a dozen projects per year, overseeing the end-to-end project lifecycle at wind facilities. The position is hybrid with minimum 4 days in office per week in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Occasional travel to sites will be required with travel reimbursement. Responsible for the design, modeling, development and testing of a machine, structure or system. Develops functional requirements. Understands and applies standard engineering principles. Creates simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs and test how a machine, structure or system operates. Designs and tests components, and integrates components to produce final product. Monitors quality of products and controls the efficiency of processes. Evaluates a design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Investigates root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule capital projects at wind farms
• Order equipment and manage contractors
• Coordinate with site Operations & Maintenance teams
• Perform limited research and development to select optimal equipment
• Manage a multi-year (5-year) project portfolio with budgeting and forecasting
• Ensure quality, schedule adherence, and cost control
• Perform desk-based planning and scheduling (opening/planning work orders)
• Coordinate schedules and field visits with contractors
• Work with O&M teams to align priorities
• Research equipment options and document decisions
• Conduct budgeting/forecasting and portfolio tracking
• Travel during construction windows to oversee installations (occasional)

Required Skills

• Project management experience
• Strong communication skills (critical due to multi-site coordination)
• Ability to work effectively with Operations & Maintenance teams
• Independent problem solving and ownership

Preferred Skills

• Wind (or broader renewables) domain experience
• Exposure to solar, hydro, or battery projects
• Comfort with spreadsheets (tools are easy to learn; not a differentiator)
• Wind turbine OEM experience (e.g., Vestas) or on-site wind experience

Education Requirements

• ABET Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines considered, ideally from an ABET-accredited program)
• Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) - nice to have
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration - nice to have

Required Experience

• Approximately 3-7 years of project management or engineering experience
• Renewables experience, especially wind, is highly preferred
• Engineers preferred; strong renewables project management backgrounds considered even without a degree (engineering degree is highly preferred but not required)

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Independent frontline project management with minimal day-to-day oversight; high autonomy (assigned projects and execute them)
• Collaborative work across renewables and Operations & Maintenance teams
• Hybrid work environment with 4 days onsite at Marshall Ops Center (Minneapolis area) or Sioux Falls, SD service center, and 1 day remote
• Occasional travel during construction windows to oversee wind farm installations in Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota (less than 20% travel)
• Free parking available at Marshall and Sioux Falls locations
• Some risk traveling to wind farms; 4 days in office
