PRACTICE LEAD

Practice Lead – Boston, MA Fort Point Associates, a Tetra Tech company, is adding a Practice Lead to its team based in Boston, MA. Position Summary The Practice Lead will guide and expand the multi‑disciplinary urban planning and environmental permitting consulting team. Responsibilities include setting strategic direction, collaborating with regional offices, developing new business opportunities, leading project due diligence analysis, preparing regulatory filing materials, participating in public hearings, supervising and mentoring planners, and fostering a collaborative team approach. Essential Job Functions Serve in a key team management, client relationship, technical expertise, and supervisory role. Lead business development activities including annual operating plans, client development, staff recruitment, and professional organization involvement. Lead projects and pursuits with clients in the Greater Boston area from pre‑positioning through project closeout. Manage project financials, budgets, profit and loss, invoicing, and payment while coordinating personnel and resources for diverse clients. Mentor staff and provide senior guidance on office and operations management, with a focus on staff retention and recruitment. Execute work in accordance with internal quality procedures, applicable codes, legislation, and industry standards to ensure compliance and technical excellence. Pursue continuous learning to maintain technical knowledge and professional competency. Promote a culture of safety and report incidents promptly. Perform additional tasks as required to support project goals and company initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in city/urban planning, environmental science, civil/environmental engineering or related field; MS preferred. 15+ years of experience in local, state, and federal environmental permitting. Active AICP certification strongly preferred. Demonstrated success in complex regulatory environments delivering positive outcomes for public and private clients. Highly motivated team player able to lead and motivate others in project plans and client pursuits. Active and valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle history. Physical Requirements Remain in a stationary position while performing computer‑based tasks and attending meetings. Frequent use of hands to operate computers and office equipment. Strong visual acuity for detailed drawings and screen work. Communicate clearly in person, virtually, and via telephone. Attend client meetings and site visits, including walking through active facilities. Walk, stand, climb stairs or ladders, and navigate uneven terrain as needed. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Use personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, and steel‑toed boots when required. Tolerate varying environmental conditions such as weather, noise, and dust during site visits. Work Environment / Environmental Factors Primary work in a professional office with frequent travel throughout the Northeast. Extensive use of computers, digital communication tools, and design software in a hybrid office setting. Interaction with project teams, clients, consultants, and stakeholders via in‑person meetings, video conferences, and phone calls. Exposure to active construction environments with noise, dust, and temperature variations. Adaptability to shifting project priorities, client expectations, and multidisciplinary coordination. Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple concurrent projects with high attention to detail. Collaboration across time zones or with remote team members when project scope requires. Additional Information Full‑time, regular position with standard hours 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday; occasional extended hours may be required. Hybrid arrangement: 30 % office, 30 % site visits/client meetings, 40 % remote (home location), subject to review.
