Job Summary This role is responsible to the assigned manager for performing engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. Job Description Civil Engineer – Transmission Line Engineering Help Build the Grid of the Future Join AEP's Transmission Line Engineering team and play a key role in designing and delivering the infrastructure that powers millions of homes and businesses. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact transmission projects while developing expertise in structural, geotechnical, and transmission line engineering. What You’ll Do Plan and scope transmission line projects Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders Select and evaluate transmission structure types Review geotechnical reports and foundation recommendations Design transmission structure foundations Perform conductor tension, sag, and clearance evaluations Develop transmission line designs using PLS-CADD Support project scheduling, cost estimating, and project execution Why AEP? Work on critical infrastructure projects that impact millions of customers Gain experience with industry-leading transmission design tools Collaborate with experienced engineers and subject matter experts Grow your technical and leadership skills through mentorship and hands‑on project experience Help modernize and strengthen the electric grid What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline in a program accredited by ABET* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Interest in structural, geotechnical, or utility infrastructure design Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills EIT certification or progress toward licensure preferred *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
