Roadway/Earthwork Estimator

Overview We are currently seeking a Roadway/Earthwork Estimator for our Transportation/Heavy Civil Division in Chicago, IL. The Estimator will support and work with management, operations, and estimating staff in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs, and engineering principles. Qualified individuals will have estimating experience with large Transportation projects, be confident working with estimating teams on projects of varying sizes, and be capable of estimating hard bid, negotiated, and conceptual projects. The individual must be self‑motivated, possess strong communication/interpersonal skills, and be confident in developing and managing their assigned portion of the estimate. Show leadership by coordinating a team of estimators to develop a large multidisciplinary estimate. Determine labor and equipment costs. Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and material pricing. Review and understand all bid documents and assess project risks. Understand project logistics and schedule. Prepare bid packages and compare competitive subcontractor and supplier bids. Review quotes and estimates with the Project Management Team. Prepare estimates at different levels of completion (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documents, etc.). Assist with post‑bid buyouts. Comprehend contract requirements for diversity compliance. Qualifications 5 years of experience or a college degree with 3 years of experience. Experience estimating projects over $30 M. Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS, AutoDesk Civil 3D, MicroStation, Bluebeam, etc. Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles. Well‑organized, flexible, detail‑oriented, and able to multi‑task. Prioritizes workload and consistently meets deadlines while handling changing tasks and demands. Effective presentation skills. Excellent written and oral communication. Salary: $108,000 – $161,000 per year.
