This role is a hands-on welding position within a fabrication environment that specializes in valves and related equipment. You will spend the majority of your time performing structural welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and occasionally exotic metals, using primarily MIG and some TIG processes. The position requires strong blueprint reading skills, the ability to work from work orders and, at times, to support R&D efforts where no drawings are available. You will also perform light structural fitting of your own work, basic quality checks, and assist with general floor tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural welding on plate and V-groove assemblies, with approximately 80% of your time dedicated to welding work.
• Use MIG welding for about 90% of welding tasks and TIG welding for the remaining 10%, ensuring strong, consistent weld quality.
• Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, and occasionally exotic metals, adjusting techniques and settings appropriately for each material.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work order tickets, and fabrication drawings to plan and execute welds and assemblies accurately.
• Support R&D work by fabricating components that may not have formal drawings, using your experience and judgment to achieve design intent.
• Perform structural fitting for approximately 20% of your time, including centering plates, aligning components, and tack welding assemblies prior to final welds.
• Carry out light quality control checks on your own work, verifying dimensions, fit, and weld integrity before moving pieces to the next stage.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with general floor duties such as cleaning and basic shop tasks during slower periods.
• Collaborate with other welders, fabricators, machinists, and warehouse personnel to complete projects efficiently and safely.
• Follow all safety procedures, shop guidelines, and equipment operating standards while working in an AC, production-focused facility.
• Be available to work additional hours, including late shifts or occasional weekends, when emergent work or hot jobs require extra coverage.

Essential Skills

• At least 7 years of structural welding experience in a fabrication or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in MIG welding, including plate welding and fillet welds on structural steel components.
• Proficiency in TIG welding, particularly on stainless steel and other metals as required.
• Hands-on experience with light structural fitting, including aligning, centering, and tack welding plates and structural components.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, with the ability to interpret welding symbols, dimensions, and fabrication details.
• Experience welding carbon steel and stainless steel in structural applications.
• Ability to perform basic quality checks on personal welds and assemblies to ensure accuracy and integrity.
• Capability to work independently on assigned projects while coordinating effectively with other welders and fabricators.
• Reliability and a team-oriented mindset, with a focus on consistent attendance and collaborative work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with flux-core and stick welding processes.
• Extensive fitting ability, including more complex structural fitting beyond basic alignment and tack welding.
• Experience welding exotic metals in specialized applications.
• Background in pipe welding for industrial or fabrication projects.
• Familiarity with automatic welding systems, such as Arc 5 and Arc 6 equipment.
• Broad fabrication experience across structural steel, plate welding, and general weldment assembly.
• Comfort working on projects in diverse industries and adapting to different specifications and standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, organized, and recently renovated fabrication facility with an air-conditioned shop. Departments are clearly sectioned, and you will primarily work alongside three other welders and fabricators, with nearby areas housing machinists, warehouse personnel, and office staff. The position is on a day shift schedule, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with workdays generally ranging from 8 to 10 hours. Weekly hours typically fall between 45 and 55, depending on project volume and work orders, and there may be opportunities or requirements to work late or on weekends when emergent work or hot jobs arise. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment within a production-focused setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pasadena, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
