Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: Destiny Springs Hospital Main - Surprise, AZ 85378 Position Type: Per Diem Education Level: 4 Year Degree Salary Range: $26.00 Hourly Now Hiring: PRN Recreation Therapist (Weekend Required) SUMMARY The Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator is responsible for completing patient assessments within 48 hours of admission, creating immersive program interventions through art, music, recreation, and other leisure activities that support patient treatment goals. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct therapeutic group activities and documents participation and interventions in the patient’s medical chart. Responsible for the implementation of the master treatment plan in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Facilitates Mindability Groups in the form of music, dance, movement, art, or recreational activities, per licensure, registration and/or certification. Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgement in patient’s physical and mental condition. Demonstrate current knowledge of skills, attends hospital in‑services, and completes competencies successfully. Assess patient needs and facilitate activities that are appropriate to age, development, needs, and interests of the patients served. Communicate changes in patient’s condition, including medical or behavioral, with nursing staff. Ensure timely documentation of interventions and ensure interventions are based on the patient’s treatment plan. Work collaboratively with all treatment team members to create a treatment environment that supports patient care and customer service. Apply appropriate crisis interventions and ensure interventions are appropriate for patient’s level of care. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. Complete assigned work independently during a scheduled shift. Assist patients in achieving their optimum level of independent functioning. SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE Effective oral and written communication. Ability to problem‑solve, utilizing good judgement. Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the carious patient age groups (adolescents and adults). Utilize theoretical concepts to guide effective practice within specific standards of care for adolescent and adult age groups. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Understand and comply with government regulations, regulatory standards, and hospital policies. Initiate action, take personal responsibility, suggest improvements, and solve problems within the scope of the job. Customer/client focused. Knowledge of all code procedures. Knowledge in one or more program disciplines (e.g., art, occupational, dance, recreational, and/or music therapy). WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a clinical setting. The role routinely requires interaction with patients, documentation, and utilization of standard office equipment. The role routinely utilizes de‑escalation techniques to address patients that are engaged in aggressive behavior or acting out. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to exercise self‑control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic; handle interruptions often and move from one task to another; be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touch, particularly that of the fingertips. Express and exchange ideas via spoken work during activities in which detail or important spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Express and exchange ideas via written assignments effectively and accurately. Hear to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40db loss @Hz, 1000Hz, and 2000Hz with or without correction; perceive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Occasionally handle hazardous/infectious waste. Address and prioritize multiple tasks and/or demands within established time frames. TRAVEL The Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator is an onsite position. All job‑related duties are performed on hospital grounds. REQUIRED EDUCATION / LICENSING REQUIREMENTS / EXPERIENCE Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred. Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Degree in Recreational Therapy, Music, Art, Occupational, Dance, or Movement Therapies or related field preferred. CPR certification and CPI required prior to patient interaction. Minimum of (1) year experience in behavioral health required. Minimum of (1) year experience as a group facilitator.
