Project Accountant - Construction

This is a hands‑on role supporting project operations, leadership, and field teams with accurate financial reporting, job cost tracking, billing support, and day‑to‑day accounting functions. Why Work at JKM Electric: Competitive compensation package in the upper band for the role Bonus/profit share program 100% employer covered health insurance premiums 401(k) with company match Paid time off Culture that values results, respect, and growth Professional development opportunities and support, including certifications and conference attendance Key Responsibilities Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across multiple active projects Perform job cost accounting for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead Support monthly close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations Process customer billings, including AIA pay applications, change orders, and supporting documentation Track retainage, lien waivers, certified payroll documentation, and other compliance requirements Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collections follow‑up Support accounts payable processing and vendor reconciliation Assist with payroll processing and reporting Prepare and maintain Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and project cost reports Maintain organized project financial documentation, including contracts, change orders, insurance, and releases Partner directly with project managers to monitor project financial performance, cost control and exposure, and billing status Assist leadership with financial reporting, audit support, and operational analysis Help improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting processes as the company continues to grow Qualifications 3–7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or subcontracting Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, retainage, and WIP reporting Experience with construction project accounting strongly preferred Experience working for an electrical contractor or construction subcontractor, a plus Ability to operate independently and manage responsibilities without constant oversight Comfortable working in fast‑moving construction environments where priorities can shift quickly Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow‑through Able to adapt and stay organized in growing, evolving operational environments Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, vendors, customers, and field personnel Self‑starter mentality with a practical, problem‑solving approach Take ownership, show initiative, and thrive in a fast‑paced, no‑drama culture Technical Skills Experience with construction accounting or ERP systems (Vista, Sage, Foundation, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar) Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reporting Understanding of percentage‑of‑completion accounting and revenue recognition preferred Knowledge of AIA billing and WIP reporting Union payroll or certified payroll experience is a plus #J-18808-Ljbffr JKM Electric, LLC
