Clinical Dietitian (Per Diem, Variable Hours)

Salary Range: $50.55 - $68.25 + applicable differentials Position Summary Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy that is integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice policies; evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of the plan of care; ensuring continuity of care; providing education to patients and families; supervising diet aides and mentoring interns; managing resources cost‑effectively; participating in department quality control; and maintaining professional competency. Additional duties may be assigned as required. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, or related area by an accredited college or university. (Required) Licensure: Registered dietitian. Current registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. (Required) Experience: Preferred experience as a registered dietitian in acute care. (Preferred) Skills/Technical: Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy; effective written and verbal communication; independent patient care; counseling and education; knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software. (Required) Other Qualifications: Specialty certification (e.g., CNSC, C.D.E.); American Dietetic Association’s Specialty Training; bilingual language skills. (Preferred) Essential Job Responsibilities Achieving Results Conduct nutrition screening and assessment using department policies and evidence‑based standards. Interpret data to identify nutrition‑related problems. Utilize assessment techniques that consider age‑specific, cultural, religious, and ethnic needs. Evaluate effectiveness and progress of medical nutrition therapy interventions; reassess and adapt plans as needed. Maintain productivity standards with effective time management and task prioritizing. Demonstrates Skill Derive clear, concise nutrition diagnoses based on assessments. Develop and implement individualized nutrition intervention plans aligned with medical program goals. Document nutrition plans and progress in patient’s medical record. Ensure care adheres to regulatory guidelines. Assess educational needs and provide counseling for individuals and groups. Evaluate learning outcomes; refer patients for additional services as appropriate. Assist with education of dietetic interns and students. Participate in community projects and educational outreach as needed. Conduct in‑services and presentations to hospital staff. Planning & Coordinating Assign and direct workload of diet assistants and clerks. Participate in orientation and training of new dietitians. Complete all job‑related paperwork thoroughly and timely. Use department resources prudently. Professionalism Communicate effectively with co‑workers, health care team, patients, family, and visitors. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, patient care conferences, and documentation. Serve as a resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues. Work cooperatively with food service staff to ensure diet prescription conformance. Understand the Hospital’s Mission, Vision, and Values in patient care. Handle patient complaints with appropriate follow‑up and communication. Attend department meetings and in‑services per policy. Take responsibility for information disseminated within the department. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for the organization and The American Dietetic Association. Demonstrate accountability for use of patient protected health information. Support infection control, safety, risk management, and customer/guest relation programs. Improving the Organization Participate in quality and process improvement activities. Consult with the Clinical Nutrition Manager when inconsistencies exist between performance and expected outcomes. Self‑Development Complete assigned annual in‑services and mandatory events. Develop and implement an individualized plan for professional growth including participation in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs. Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, task forces, and projects. Regulatory Compliance Assist in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards, including county, state, federal, and The Joint Commission. Manage all tasks associated with performance indicators on the Quality Control Report. Adhere to all department policies and procedures relevant to the position. Performs other related duties as required. Physical Requirements The role may involve moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
