Employment Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Employment Associate Attorney with 3–6 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its highly regarded Employment practice.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience handling employment matters arising in private equity and M&A transactions , including employment-related agreements, restrictive covenants, employment disputes, and investigations. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with sophisticated private equity clients and strategic investors on complex transactions and employment matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise private equity clients and strategic investors on employment matters arising in corporate transactions.
• Draft and negotiate employment agreements, offer letters, separation agreements, and restrictive covenant agreements.
• Conduct legal research regarding applicable state employment laws and regulatory requirements.
• Advise clients on wage and hour, discrimination, performance management, discipline, leave, disability, and other employment matters.
• Participate in due diligence calls with management and advise on employment-related risks and considerations.
• Negotiate principal and ancillary transaction documents, including purchase and sale agreements, disclosure schedules, employee leasing agreements, management restrictive covenant agreements, partnership agreements, LLC agreements, and employment agreements.
• Analyze pre-litigation disputes and litigation matters and assist with developing case strategy.
• Prepare and finalize court and agency filings and responses.
• Conduct and assist with employment investigations.
• Work closely with senior attorneys to develop strategic approaches to complex employment issues.
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of substantial employment experience , with a focus on private equity and/or M&A transactions.
• Experience drafting and negotiating employment agreements, offer letters, restrictive covenant agreements, and separation agreements.
• Experience handling employment disputes and/or investigations.
• Strong understanding of employment law and its application to corporate transactions.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and research skills.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and client management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines effectively.
• Excellent academic credentials.
• Admission to the Illinois Bar or eligibility to obtain admission promptly required.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $260,000–$390,000 annually , depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
