Located in Cleveland, OH, MHMC seeks an experienced physician with a provenrecord of accomplishmentof clinical excellence, growth, and leadership. The Director will work collaboratively with the Cancer Center Director and Chair of Medicine to enhance the clinical, educational and research missions of the Division and the multispecialty Cancer Center. The successful candidate will be expected toparticipatein the strategic initiative ofmembershipinthe Case Western University Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division of Hematology and Oncology hasestablished clinicalexpertise in the treatment of hematologic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and breast malignanciesand is committed to expanding programs across all oncologic subspecialties.Members of the Division collaborate closely with specialists across the Cancer Center including experts in surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology, and radiation oncology to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer care. The Cancer Center supports this collaborative approach through12 subspecialty multi-disciplinary tumor boards and maintains accreditation from several nationally recognized organizations including the American College of Surgeons Commission on Canceras an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. Faculty are engaged in theMHMCinternal medicineresidency andhematology / oncology fellowship programs. The fellows cover the inpatient hematology and oncology consultation service for the MHMC hospital. The consult serviceexpertisecan also be requested by the separate inpatient cancer unit run by hospitalists. Clinical research is an integralcomponentof the Division and theMetroHealthCancer Center. After holding the ECOG Cooperative Group grant atMetroHealthfor38years, the Division and the Cancer Center are full partners (Lead Academic Participating Site) in the Case Western Reserve University National Clinical Trials Network grant. With theassistanceoftheMHMC oncology research team, all Division members are expected toenrolltheir patients in NCI, pharmaceutical-sponsored, andinvestigator-initiatedstudies.The Division is closely aligned with the MHMC’s basic science driven Division of Cancer Biology and the Gene and Cellular Therapy Institute. Specific Responsibilities • The Director will be a practicing member of the Hematology and Oncology Medicine Division,leading byproviding outstanding clinical care and service to patients and referring providers,and promoting clinical trial enrollment. •Establisha faculty development plan thatidentifiesfaculty sub-specialty interests, strengths and capabilities that can lead to successful program development and professional growth • Work on all aspects of faculty recruitment, and retention •Participatein the Department of Medicine’s leadership team ensuring attainment of the department’s goals andobjectives • Leadership of the academic enterprise • Enthusiastically support all Quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with all patient safety/risk management and compliance programs Candidate Qualifications • An M.D. or D.O. degree,ABIMboard certification inOncology and/or Hematology andan unrestricted Ohio state medical license • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role within an academic institution, having achieved at least rank of Associate Professor •Possessa defined clinical niche with demonstration of past participation in scholarship and investigational activities • Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to advance and develop a superior clinical service in an academic setting • Effective supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring and coachingexpertise • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences, in individual or group settings • Advocate for organizational values, quality,safety,and commitment to religious, racial and gender equity,inclusion,and diversity • Personal characteristics of integrity,maturity,and compassion TheMetroHealthSystem Our Mission: Leadingthe way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching,discovery,and teamwork. One goal is to become amember institutionof the NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center in two years. The new Director of Hematology/Oncologyis expected to play a leading role in the exciting new initiative. The principal teaching hospitalofCase Western Reserve School of Medicine,MetroHealthmaintains a fine tradition of academics and research.All active staff physicians are full-time faculty of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and activelyparticipatein graduate and undergraduate medical education.Last year,390 residents and fellows received intensive training in more than 25 specialties. In addition, 991 medical students completed more than 1,400 rotations.
