Electrician Specialist

Overview Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational, and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction. Position The Electrician Specialist performs advanced‑level responsibilities in the Field offices, Warehouse, Field Facilities, Complex Marine Structures, and Permanent Canal Closure Pump Stations for the Flood Protection Authority‑East. The electrical specialist reports directly to the electrical specialist leader. Electric control and high voltage jobs are performed on complex, highly responsible, advanced‑level work in installing, maintaining, and repairing controls, primarily high voltage systems, motors, and generators. Assigned Stations Primary duty stations are the Orleans Field Office, Warehouse, and Field Facilities; assignments may be changed as agency needs dictate. Qualifications Minimum qualifications: Two years of on‑job experience in the following areas: Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade. Job Duties Install, alter, maintain and repair wiring systems for vertical gates, record surveillance systems, communication radios, interior and exterior lights, electric taps, exhaust fans, and other electrical fixtures and equipment associated with buildings. Perform electrical inspections of electrical equipment, switch gear controls and appliances. Replace electrical components on control systems; perform some mechanical work in replacing and repairing parts. Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical motor starters, related switchgear, and controls. Ensure the operational ability of sector gates. Operate floodgates, generators, and bridges and inspect for operational deficiencies. Maintain and make minor repairs to mechanical and electrical equipment on gates and movable bridges. Maintain generators used to operate the floodgates and perform minor repairs as required. Operate floodgates, generators, and bridges, and inspect for operational deficiencies. Perform minor maintenance on all equipment assigned to them. Install and make repairs on nonmetallic cables (Romex, conduits, thin‑wall or rigid conduit). Must be able to bend pipe. Bends pipe for specific job sites, as requested. Ensure operational ability of vertical drop, fuel distribution, air compressors, programmable logic controls, and generators. Document inspections and repairs in accordance with USACE Operations and Maintenance Manual. Position Specific Details Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment. Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group. Work Schedule: Full‑time (40‑hour week). Four 10‑hour days, Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Compensation: Full‑time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the state’s retirement plan, health insurance, agency‑paid short‑term disability coverage, paid holidays, and paid annual and sick leave. Additional Duties: The incumbent is on a 24‑hour call and may be required to report for work and remain there during emergencies until such emergency subsides.
