Job Description
This Medical Technologist role offers the opportunity to work in a high-volume hospital laboratory using state-of-the-art equipment and the latest technology. You will perform qualitative and quantitative analysis across multiple disciplines, including chemistry and hematology, and play a key role in delivering accurate and timely results that directly impact patient care. Responsibilities

• Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis on all specimens received in the assigned laboratory station, following established protocols and procedures.
• Apply a thorough understanding of the principles behind the tests performed and maintain strong working knowledge of the equipment and instruments used in the assigned area.
• Handle and process specimens accurately, ensuring all samples are placed in appropriate storage conditions to maintain integrity.
• Follow all quality control policies and procedures to ensure reliable, accurate, and reproducible patient test results.
• Recognize critical or life-threatening results promptly, verify their accuracy, and report them to the appropriate clinician or care team according to laboratory policy.
• Document all test results accurately and completely in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other medical technologists and laboratory staff across departments such as chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, coagulation, and urology to support efficient workflow.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all hospital and laboratory safety standards.
• Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments to stay current with evolving laboratory techniques, technology, and best practices.
• Support the growth and continuous improvement of the laboratory by contributing to process enhancements and embracing new technologies and methodologies.

Essential Skills

• Active New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or valid permit issued by NYS Department of Education for Clinical Laboratory Technology.
• Demonstrated experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, performing testing in chemistry and hematology.
• Proficiency in medical laboratory procedures and workflows, including specimen handling, analysis, and result reporting.
• Ability to recognize, verify, and appropriately report critical or life-threatening test results.
• Strong working knowledge of laboratory equipment and instruments relevant to chemistry and hematology testing.
• Experience documenting results accurately in a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Attention to detail and adherence to quality control policies and procedures to ensure reliable patient results.
• Ability to work effectively in a hospital medical laboratory environment with multiple departments and a large team of medical technologists.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist is preferred but not required when holding a full New York State MLT license.
• Experience in blood bank, microbiology, coagulation, and urology laboratory departments is an advantage.
• Background in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field.
• Interest in long-term career growth within a hospital laboratory setting.
• Ability to adapt to a growing site and embrace new technologies and processes.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with clinicians and laboratory colleagues.

Work Environment
This role is based in a hospital medical laboratory that is recognized as one of the leading clinical labs in the United States. The facility uses state-of-the-art equipment, and all technology is the latest available, providing a highly advanced and modern work setting. You will work alongside 30+ medical laboratory technologists on each shift in a collaborative environment that includes departments such as microbiology, blood bank, general laboratory, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urology. Shifts are overnight, typically 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. or 12:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The laboratory offers opportunities for professional growth and long-term stability, along with competitive benefits including holiday pay (6 days) and vacation pay (10 days).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Far Rockaway, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
