Job Description

This role focuses on performing both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work with a wide range of production equipment, handle systems up to 480V, and support efficient, reliable plant operations across multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on a variety of production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.

• Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, chillers, proofers, ovens, and baggers.

• Work safely and effectively with electrical systems up to 480V, following all applicable safety procedures.

• Rewire, replace, and install motors, including AC and DC motors and three-phase systems, as needed.

• Assist machine operators with equipment setup and changeovers to support smooth production transitions.

• Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment and components.

• Maintain an approximate 60/40 split between mechanical and electrical work, adapting to operational needs.

• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately.

• Troubleshoot and repair components related to bearings, gearboxes, pneumatics, and hydraulics.

• Diagnose and resolve issues involving variable frequency drives (VFDs) and related control equipment.

• Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled systems, including Allen-Bradley PLCs, within industrial production lines.

• Collaborate with team members and operators to identify recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions.

• Follow good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards when working in production areas, especially around food-related processes.

• Document maintenance activities as required and help maintain an organized, safe, and efficient maintenance shop.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in both disciplines, including work on 3-phase systems and AC/DC motors.

• Hands-on experience with bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, chillers, proofers, ovens, and baggers.

• Ability to work with electrical systems up to 480V safely and competently.

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatics and hydraulics.

• Proficiency with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and related electrical controls.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics accurately.

• Experience performing preventative and reactive maintenance on industrial production equipment.

• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced, industrial maintenance setting.

• Familiarity with PLC control systems and PLC troubleshooting, including Allen-Bradley platforms.

• Capability to perform basic welding and fabrication tasks for equipment repair and modification.

• Comfort working in a GMP-focused industrial or logistics environment.

• Ability to support both electrical and mechanical work, with a roughly 50/50 to 60/40 split between disciplines depending on operational needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a food manufacturing or GMP environment, with bakery experience preferred.

• Prior exposure to PLC troubleshooting and control systems beyond basic fault-finding.

• Experience working with conveyors and automated material handling systems in an industrial or logistics setting.

• Experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with union work practices.

• Interest in progressing into higher technician classifications or leadership roles such as Maintenance Lead or Maintenance Supervisor.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a maintenance team of approximately 15 people.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced manufacturing facility operating under good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards, including food-related processes. The maintenance team consists of approximately 15 people, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. You will work with a variety of industrial equipment, including conveyors, mixers, ovens, baggers, chillers, and proofers, as well as electrical systems up to 480V, VFDs, PLCs (including Allen-Bradley), and three-phase AC/DC motors. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to GMP requirements, and you will perform your duties in a production setting that may involve exposure to typical industrial conditions such as noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
