Product Manager

About Boardable Boardable is board management software for mission-driven organizations: nonprofits, community colleges, K-12 districts, associations, healthcare systems, and government entities. Our users are volunteer board members and the small staffs who support them. We're an established company in our category, growing steadily, with a plan to grow considerably over the next three years. Product and Engineering is a small, senior team. You'll work close to the build and ship more software than most teams elsewhere. Our AI product philosophy is focused completely on solving real problems, not a feature count. We have AI capabilities in market today and more in development, aimed at making participation easier for board members and taking work off the staff who support them. The Role You are a Product Manager for the core Boardable platform. You own the work that makes the product better for the people who use it every week: agendas, minutes, meetings, documents, and the workflows around them. This is a hands-on role with real control. You write the requirements, shape the backlog, run planning with engineering, and stay with a release until it lands. Decisions sit with you rather than in a committee, and you see what they did for customers in weeks. You'll start by earning the domain. Board governance has real rules, and our customers work under them. Early on you'll ship work that's largely defined and validated, to learn the product, the segments, and the people you'll build with. As that footing comes, more of what we build starts with you. The people who do well here think in outcomes. Adoption, retention, and expansion are the scoreboard, and you should want a seat where those numbers move because of calls you made. This role gives you that. What You'll Do First 90 days Learn the product, the segments, and the governance workflows our customers live in. Take over grooming and definition for in-flight work, including the meeting series manager, agenda builder, and minutes. Keep releases moving on a predictable cadence with engineering and product marketing. Sit in on support escalations and customer calls until you can predict what our users will say. Build the plan to shift backlog ownership and acceptance fully to the Product Owner. Ongoing Write clear specs and acceptance criteria that engineers can build from without a second meeting. Prioritize against customer value and revenue impact, and say no to the rest. Run planning and retro alongside the Product Owner and Director of Engineering. Talk to customers directly. Turn what you hear into a backlog, not a report. Partner with product marketing on releases so features land with customers, not just in production. Work with Sales and Support on roadmap requests: what's real, what's a one-off, what we won't do. Own outcomes: adoption, retention, and the product's contribution to expansion. What We're Looking For You already think in outcomes. You can point to numbers that moved because of decisions you made, and you'd rather be measured that way. 4+ years in product management at a B2B SaaS company, with shipped work you can walk us through in detail. Experience on a small team where you wrote the requirements yourself and stayed close to the build. Strong written communication. Most decisions here get made in writing. Comfort with ambiguity and with taking direction while you learn a new domain. A track record of talking to customers directly and changing what you built because of it. Judgment about what not to build. We don't require a technical degree. We do expect you to hold your own with engineers about tradeoffs, constraints, and what a change actually costs. Nice to Have Experience serving nonprofits, education, government, or associations. Work on products with a low-frequency, high-stakes user — someone who shows up monthly and has to succeed on the first try. Having shipped an AI or LLM-backed feature to real customers. Accessibility work, particularly WCAG remediation in a live product. Familiarity with Jira and Productboard. Team and How We Work You report to the CPO, who owns Product and Marketing and works directly with the CEO.
