Professor of Modern Chinese Culture

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in modern Chinese culture to begin in Fall 2024. This is an open-rank search. Applicants with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in modern Chinese culture, including in global and comparative contexts from the late nineteenth through the twenty‑first century, are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in modern Chinese culture, from introductory undergraduate lecture courses through graduate seminars. The candidate will also supervise doctoral dissertations and participate in the programs of the department as well as in area studies initiatives within the larger university community. Qualifications Ph.D. is required prior to appointment. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in both research and teaching.
