Job Description
This role focuses on the fabrication and assembly of aircraft floats that convert existing airplanes into seaplanes, supporting passenger service, tourism, and fire-fighting operations worldwide. You will start with simpler fabrication tasks and, as you gain experience and training, progress to more complex work with clear opportunities for advancement. This is a hands-on position with no welding involved, ideal for someone who enjoys working with tools, following detailed instructions, and contributing to high-quality aviation products.
Pay: 23-32/hr Based on experience
Shift: 6:30am-5pm Monday-Thursday
Responsibilities
Perform simple fabrication and assembly of aircraft floats under the guidance of more experienced fabricators.
Form materials to match blueprint specifications or sample parts by following detailed instructions.
Operate equipment and use common hand tools to manufacture and assemble parts according to established procedures.
Inspect all parts for cleanliness and defects, ensuring they meet quality standards before moving to the next process.
Keep the Production Supervisor informed of work status, workload, issues, and progress related to assigned tasks.
Record time accurately in ERP software and sign off work orders for each assembly process to maintain proper documentation.
Follow procedures that support compliance with FAA regulations and internal quality standards.
If hired as or promoted to a Senior Fabricator, select appropriate raw materials and prefabricated parts to perform moderately complex fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts and assemblies.
Verify that parts and assemblies conform to industry and company standards, and provide feedback to less experienced team members.
Interpret specifications, drawings, and sample parts to determine machine adjustments and material processing requirements.
Identify and perform the processes required for fabrication and assembly, ensuring workflow efficiency and product quality.
Inspect parts and assemblies for cleanliness and conformity, and notify the Production Supervisor when non-conformities are identified so corrective action can be taken.
Maintain traceability of materials and parts issued to jobs, and return unused material through proper procedures.
Follow engineering drawings and specifications to install, connect, or bond aircraft parts using adhesives, rivets, or threaded fasteners.
Prepare and use jigs or fixtures to aid in locating, bonding, or drilling aircraft parts accurately and consistently.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or GED preferred.
For Senior-level roles, a one-year technical diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Prior experience in assembly and fabrication is preferred; for Senior-level roles, a minimum of three years of related experience in assembly and fabrication is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in working with hand tools and performing common metal shop tasks.
Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Manual dexterity and skill in using hand tools such as files, hammers, and snips, as well as power tools including sanders, drills, riveters, and grinders.
Ability to understand, speak, and effectively communicate in English, including following oral and written instructions.
Capability to move around the plant area repeatedly throughout the day, including standing, walking, and using hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Ability to reach with hands and arms and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed for fabrication tasks.
Strong visual skills including close vision for small parts and detailed information, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic using various units of measure such as decimals and fractions.
Ability to understand and complete written or verbal instructions and manage problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Willingness and ability to learn to safely and properly use the tools and equipment needed to make assigned parts.
Commitment to conform to applicable FAA and other regulatory requirements in all aspects of the work.
Ability to work as an effective and proactive team player, demonstrate flexibility, and switch priorities while maintaining a helpful, positive approach.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience reading and working from blueprints and engineering drawings.
Familiarity with fabrication, assembly, blueprint interpretation, hand tools, riveting, and using a tape measure.
Experience with ERP or similar software systems for recording time and work order information.
Interest in cross-training across different fabrication processes and tasks.
Motivation to grow into more complex fabrication responsibilities, including Senior-level duties over time.
Comfort working in a regulated environment that requires adherence to aviation and quality standards.

Work Environment
This role is based in a metal fabrication environment that can become loud when machines are running or when certain tools are in use. The shop is clean and well organized, supporting safe and efficient work practices. The position follows a first-shift, 4/10 schedule, working Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. You will work hands-on with metal fabrication tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and jigs or fixtures, in a production setting that emphasizes quality, safety, and compliance with aviation standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of South Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $47000.00 - $66560.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position with an expected pay range of $23.00/hour - $32.00/hour. Within this range, pay offered will be based on the candidate's skills, experience, education, and other qualifications.
