All CPS Officers embrace a team-player and customer service mentality, working collaboratively with College partners to help foster a safe environment in which to live, work, learn, and thrive.Whether dealing with a routine call for service or an emergency, officers utilize a solid understanding of campus operations while employing sound judgment, critical problem-solving skills, and empathy to resolve the task at hand.We're willing to train the right candidate, and offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and tuition benefits.Key ResponsibilitiesSafety and Security OperationsRespond to all calls for assistance, including 911 calls and quality of life complaints (e.g., disturbances, trespasses, public intoxication, medical assists, mental health calls)Report on all calls, providing a detailed narrative of actions and results in a timely and accurate formatPerform proactive vehicle, bike, and foot patrols of campus, and complete routine operational system checksConduct daily lock-ups and unlocks for academic and administrative buildings, including interior and exterior checksProvide student welfare checks and safety escort services in and around campus, and work with local law enforcement as neededFire Safety OperationsServe as primary first responders to calls involving fire alarms, fire exit door activation, and fire evacuation drillsRespond to all fire and trouble alarms on campus and assist the Burlington Fire DepartmentConduct daily inspection and testing of safety equipmentRelationship BuildingFoster positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, neighbors, and external agenciesPromote open, fluid, and professional communication with all Champlain College stakeholdersMaintain professional relationships with the Burlington Police and Fire Departments who support our campusSupport the College's ongoing efforts to be a good neighbor with the surrounding Burlington communityRequirementsExcellent judgmentPhysical ability to perform the essential functions of the jobAbility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shiftsDriver's license required, with no more than 3 pointsWilling to train the right candidate — prior experience in public safety, security, or law enforcement preferred but not requiredWork ArrangementFull-time, in-person position based at our main campus and lakeside office in Burlington, VTRotating shift schedule required to provide 24/7 campus coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidaysRequires regular patrol on foot or vehicle across campus grounds in all weather conditionsMust be available to respond to emergencies and time-sensitive situations across campusCompensation & BenefitsAnnual Salary: $21.00 - $22.42/hourComprehensive Benefits Package:Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with HSA and FSA optionsPaid Time Off: 16 holidays, 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks sick time, and 2 days of personal leaveRetirement: 403(b) plan with 3% employer matching contributionEducation: Tuition benefits for employees and family membersWellness: Gym discount and Wellness programs with up to $300 annual incentivesWelfare: Short-term and long-term disability coverage, plus life insuranceOther Perks: Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with counseling services, access to employee discounts and local/national benefit programsApplication Instructions:To apply, please follow the link below and submit the following application materials:Resume highlighting your experience, education and skills relevant to the roleThe College seeks candidates who can enhance its mission through their work, life experiences, service, teaching, or research.
